What does that have to do with thinking you could be a survivalist in 18th century France as a response to an oppressive king.

Multiple iterations “ate themselves”, was a long struggle between the different factions that tried to form the post royalty government

I’m exploring the Black Hills in South Dakota and made the mistake of visiting the Crazy Horse Memorial

for those that aren’t aware, like 50 years ago or so a leader of a Lakota tribe made a deal with a Polish-American sculptor to do a memorial of Crazy Horse in the side of a mountain. Crazy Horse himself specifically didn’t want to be photographed or memorialized in this way but whatever, he ded so he can’t say anything. Anyway the memorial is very ambitious and the Polish guy is long dead and the attraction of it is dumb. There’s some strong belief that they don’t want to actually complete the memorial (really all that’s done is the face) but are probably making a killing on milking tourists to come see it (sort of like La Sagrada Familia). Not to mention that most of the attraction is talking about the polish dude…there’s an introductory video that talks about Crazy Horse for like 20 seconds and then the rest is about the sculptor and his family. Entrance is $15 if you’re by yourself and $30+ the more people you have in your car. It’s such a racket

It’s insane. I’m offended and I’m not even Lakotan

not to mention that it’s right next to Rushmore but is the biggest example of bullying ever. US kicks the tits out of American Indians and then makes a gaudy memorial to four white guys in one of the most sacred regions of American Indian culture (also that the US violated a treaty in commandeering it). I love it

I'd just be pissed that I wasted time going to see a sham memorial.

Man who changed his name to make it more palatable to a certain group of people is mad about a baseball team who changed their name to make it more palatable to a certain group of people... full story at 11.

For those that don't know, Ted's real name is Rafael...according to Ted himself, he changed it in high school after he was getting picked on for the name.

"But if you want to change the Dolphins to the Cubans" I'd be OK with that. Of course you would, nothing like stoking race politics.

GOP wants to punish Cheney and Kinzinger for agreeing to join the 1/6 commission.
They are running on the stolen election theme for 2022.

@King Colby - I think was the one that said Trump would fade away or his grip on the party would wane here as we got past the election. Do you still feel that way? Seems as if it's still going strong. It feels fatiguing. Does this really poll that well with the center folks? I can't imagine it would?

Iirc the bipartisan 1/6 commission was defeated after an 11th hour intervention by Trump.

Now we have this.

I was one that said that as well. I mean, it's been 6 months since he moved on from office. It's still not far out from it. Who knows what happens a year, two years, etc from now, until 2024. A lot can change.

One thing I never said was he'd drop off a cliff and never be heard from again. Time will tell though. I can only speak for myself and people close to me, we have no interest in putitng him back in power again.

I think his days as being a President again are done IMO.

I would think the best case scenario, is you get the guy out of there - and let him get sunk by investigations and push for DeSantis, although he's now facing trouble with the COVID stuff in FL. Trump Jr. is also rising in the ranks IIRC reading something over the weekend.

Yeah, I agree with that. If he succeeds, then obviously his longevity will continue. If he fails, I think the GOP starts looking at what they are doing and question why they hitched their wagon to Trump.

But I still feel strongly that any GOP candidate hitched to Trump, and especially Trump himself or anyone in his family will not be President in 2024.

I think if Biden and team can't get their act together and either start taking hardline stances they're gonna get steamrolled here in the upcoming elections. Then we're back to lame-duck, and I guess that's best case scenario for a lot of people.
