my issue with Chappelle is that the trans community accuses him of the same thing he accuses white people of. He literally had a "I had a trans friend so I can't be transphobic" bit. He talks about empathy being a two way street but then refuses to look at how else that street can be applied.
I kinda felt the same way while watching the special...very much the 'is he really trying to say he has a trans friend'.

It was somewhat cringe, right up until he said that she was 'his' tribe not 'theirs'. I thought that was incredibly poignant, and for me sort of flipped that narrative. He wasn't saying 'look at me, I have a trans friend so I'm not transphobic'. I think he was saying 'i accepted this person as part of my tribe, but her other tribe rejected her in her last days'. As others have said, I think it was much more of a statement against the toxicity of the community than a baptism by friendship.

If we’re ever confronted by violent aliens invading, they better go after Sigourney Weaver first. She has it coming.

I think this is the discussion we’re having now.

This one might be the one!!!

In any case it's better than "he shouldn't have shot someone" "why was the gun loaded?" "He should've checked and not shot someone" "But who put the bullet there?" "Who cares? He shot someone" "But why was the gun loaded" "Doesn't matter he shouldn't have shot someone" "But the set shouldn't have bullets" "Yeah, but it did and he shot someone, he shouldn't have shot someone"

“It’s a movie” means that absolutely nothing you’re saying has anything to do with his stance on America’s ongoing crisis with guns and your attempt at calling him out as some sort of hypocrite is a drummed up fantasy based on hurt feelings about your favorite thing being threatened.

It seems appropriate to give him some degree of blame for not taking firearms on set seriously. Maybe a lot of blame. Maybe a little blame. We’ll see. But you’re trying to create connective tissues between this incident and his personal feelings on things like an autistic monster being a trained assassin by his rube mother before he goes and plows down a bunch of kindergartners, for example. But it does seem like you’ve realized how ridiculous that was and have since backed off. Congrats on re-entering earths orbit.
If he followed the safety training put out by the NRA, which is an entity that he has s**t on repeatedly and vocally, then Halyna Hutchins would still be alive. If there were a person who had repeatedly and viciously attacked, say, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and then killed someone while driving drunk, they also would be called out for their bulls**t. Baldwin deserves whatever he gets, and if I were the local DA, I'd charge him with involuntary manslaughter and let a jury decide.

This. It's just crazy, imo, to believe that untrained actors should be checking weapons handed to them by trained professionals, especially when things like blanks are being used. Having actors handle guns any more than necessary is an awful idea. It is in no way safer and would only lead to more accidents.

No one should be handling any gun that they don't know how to check and clear, period. Might has well hand a gun to a chimpanzee. Gun training isn't rocket science. I could show you how to check and clear a Colt SAA in about 10 minutes. We're talking about some of the simplest handguns in existence. If an actor is too stupid to learn how guns work, then have them make finger guns and insert guns later using CGI.

Moreover, it doesn't take any knowledge of how guns work, how to check if they're loaded, or how to load them to absorb and internalize the lesson of "Never, never, never point this thing at anyone, and for God's sake never pull the trigger when it's pointed at anyone." Baldwin didn't have to know how to check whether an SAA is loaded in order to follow that rule. He obviously did not.

In other news, Sleepy Joe is killing me with these gas prices! Well over $3 here, and I've seen $3.20 in places.

Ooof. I know we have it cheap here, but that's ridiculous. Looking at Honolulu prices on Gasbuddy, they seem to be around $4 a gallon. I thought it would be higher there.

I miss the days of getting $10 sheetz card from my grandad for Christmas and I could use it to fill up a full tank of gas in my Toyota Echo back in 2003 @ $0.89/gallon.

I remember my Mom always told me to store an emergency $20 to fill up with in the center console. Was a full tank and a value meal back in the day. Today even in the Mini it’d be half a tank.
