That certainly didn't help, but I think blaming US policy alone doesn't really paint the whole picture.

Ditto for blaming colonialism as to why Africa is decades behind the rest of the world. Didn't help, certainly, and was horribly devastating to a lot of native cultures, but goes far beyond that IMO. And I say this as a big fan of King Leopold's Ghost.

I would say much of Africa is more like a century or more behind, and that colonialism is probably 90% of the reason.

I think this argument holds water for the last couple of centuries. But Africa has largely been behind for much of modern human history.

I would actually argue that the spread of Islam early in its history across much of Africa contributed greatly to keeping things primitive, as it were.

“Behind” is a relative term.

The corrupt governance is direct fallout from colonialism.

I mean, Was there another giant superpower in the region that rejected these countries ability to self-govern if they chose the wrong leader?

Yeah...the muslim faith being anti-science and anti-intellectual (in a general sense, obviously not for all) is far more modern than most think.

Jim Jordan is an actual piece of garbage and I don't blame anyone for not wanting his antics to overshadow what they are supposed to be doing.

More heroes in the Michigan case.
An FBI agent at the center of the plot to kidnap and kill Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is accused of jumping on his wife in bed and smashing her head against a nightstand after a dispute stemming from a swingers' party, according to court records.

Special Agent Richard Trask, 39, of Kalamazoo, was charged Monday with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, less than murder following an incident Sunday.

An affidavit filed by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office in Kalamazoo County District Court said Trask's wife had bloody lacerations to the right side of her head and "blood all over chest, clothing arms and hand," as well as "severe" bruising to her neck and throat.

She told police she and her husband had several drinks at a swingers' party held at a hotel in the 2700 block of S. 11 Street in Oshtemo Township, just west of Kalamazoo, according to the affidavit. She added that she did not like the party and they argued about it on the way home.

What does that have to do with the attempted kidnapping?

Because you said "More heroes in the Michigan case", effectively implying a link between the two.

Because you said "more heros in the Michigan case" as if that guy being a turd impacted the case you're defending?

Republicans switching it up to telling people to get vaccinated. Wonder if they're seeing that their base is a large contingent of that.

How would that link the two?

The FBI agent being a violent abuser wouldn't change the pre-existing situation.

Who is "defending" anyone? This weird fixation some of you have on "this story is bonkers" meaning "the idiots in Michigan did nothing wrong" is odd.

The Fumbling Bureau of Investigation has a long history of setting up Muslims, eco-terrorists, and others and "encouraging" them towards more serious crime. They probably violate more civil rights than any organization in America.

However, that doesn't have anything to do with this gentleman being a violent abuser.

Then why reference it directly in your own words?
