I’m very much enjoying the Republican civil war. They did keep warning us that a civil war was coming. I just didn’t expect it to be within their own party.

While this is all highly entertaining, I'd like to take a minute to remind er'ryone that there are twelve Friday the 13th movies, and the 13th Halloween movie just came out a few weeks ago.

I believe tic tok is scrutinized for its potential ties to the Chinese government, if the saudis have a big ownership stake in twitter, then yeah. Twitter and Elon should be scrutinized

Saudi Prince Alwaleed already owned those shares in Twitter before Musk bought the company. Instead of cashing out, he rolled those shares over into the new entity. That saved Musk from having to buy them out at a cost of slightly under $2 billion. According to Forbes, Alwaleed's ownership percentage is a whopping 4%.

It's absolutely mind-blowing how out of touch the GOP is with the human race.
The national House popular vote to date, according to Cool Political Report:

Democratic votes
44,890,901
46.3%

Republican votes
50,703,534
52.2%

Counts still pending in California and other states will likely narrow this, but at the moment, over 5 million more Americans voted Republican than voted Democrat.

Marylanders love themselves their state flag.

Most state flags are utter poop. This TED talk is about city flags, but the principles he discusses carry over to state flags. Nearly half of state flags are just the state seal on a field—typically a blue field, although Illinois, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, have the state seal on a white field, Iowa and Missouri use the state seal on a tricolor field, and New Jersey has the state seal on a yellow field. Only a handful of state flags do not feature the state seal or symbol; Maryland is a notable exception, as are Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas.

OK. I stopped reading that piece at

"... but history has made it abundantly clear that the GOP is more than willing to compromise and “work with” Democratic administrations rather than simply kill bills."

I nearly retched at that and couldn't go on.

edit: this obviously refers to the idiotic article in the post above the vexillology post.

I love vexillology. The flag of Kansas is sometimes (and always rightly) called one of the very worst. Horrid. An abomination. An abdication of anything interesting in life.

On the other hand, the flag of the city of Wichita is fabulous. It combines Wichita's storied "Air Capital" past via the airport beacon symbolism and also includes Native American motifs, all without being too overt.

Oh, yeah. I love the idea of symbolism in a limited space. Say what you have to say without shouting it.

I cringe to the point of tears when I see the Kansas flag that says "KANSAS" along the bottom.

Show some f***ing imagination.

I for one am shocked that this was announced right after the election.

I was willing to entertain his thoughts on merit, but his determination on standing just shows he is Looney Tunes.

We knew this was the determined outcome but I thought it might be cloaked in something rational.

No this ruling does matter, because it reached the merits and struck down the program on the merits. Now we'll see if the Fifth Circuit upholds the decision.

Lake is going to win AZ
I refuse to believe this until Tomas tells me people are betting her at at least 94%.
71-29 right now. :)

https://electionbettingodds.com/GovernorsMap2022.html

And, BTW, the chances of D controlling the Senate slightly shrunk from yesterday (from 80% to 75%) because all the 3 remaining races (AZ, NV, GA) tightened. Most importantly, NV went from something like 75% to toss-up (60-40 D).

In other words, all the high-fiveing among Democrats depends on whether Republicans do NOT get two heads in consecutive coin-flips... :)
Aaand - Lake now ahead only 50.5% vs. 49.5%.
D's chances to hold AZ & NV both increased - and so the chances of controlling the Senate went up from 75% to 92%.

the best flags are the state flags of Liberia. Look hand drawn by an elementary schooler
