Yep. My issue is I go and look up things while I’m reading a real book, and fall into a wormhole that way. I’m reading a biography of Dave Brubeck, which of course lists albums and touring members and so on, so I’m looking everyone up, adding songs to playlists and in one sitting only have read 5 pages. Sad.

The Dave Brubeck Quartet toured with Charlie Parker Quartet in the Fall 1953. That would’ve been a hell of a ticket.

Squeeze 4 between 2 and 1 and change it to playing golf clash and that’s me. I do get a few minutes of reading in though.

I do most of my reading in the morning.

Reading The Necessary Death of Lewis Winter by Malcom Mackay (part of the Glasgow trilogy) and judging from the first half, this is going to be a great trilogy. Writing is fantastic. Highly recommend.

Also read Because of Winn-dixie and it was a perfect little book. Loved it.

I know I'm guilty at times of being too deep in the forest to see the trees, but this seems a little over the top. I'm biased because I'm a huge Dr. Seuss fan.

Finished up the Glasgow trilogy by Malcom Mackay. Go read these books, they are awesome. Haven't had a page turner like that since the Winslow border books. Such a simple and effective take on the relationship of a gunman and crime organization. Highest recommendation.

I have a big backlog of books now and I'm trying to catch up on them. Reading Asimov's Foundation series in ebook form, and I'm also reading The Greatest Show On Earth by Richard Dawkins for a dash of nonfiction.

Daughter just finished Lord of the rings and I got her The Simillarian which I've always wanted to read, so that may be next depending on how these shadow and bone books go. Highly recommend checking out that Glasgow trilogy, I think you'll dig it

Depends, I suppose. If it hasn't been too long since you read the trilogy, things will still click. The SIlm. does add a lot of context though, so I invariably end up reading both by the time I'm done. You can also grab Children of Hurin, and Beren and Luthien to expand those tales even further, but the Silm covers a good bit of them anyways.

I've read hurin and am familiar enough with rings that I'll probably dive in after this first read. Thanks for the heads up

Picked up a copy of what might be my most pedantic book: Taming the Tongue, in the Heyday of English Grammar (1711-1851) by Bryan Garner. It's a book about books about grammar. I bought it mostly to add to my collection of Bryan Garner books.

Halfway through Blood Meridian. I am enjoying the book, and I love the vivid, almost LSD-like descriptions of the Old West. But damn, his writing style takes some getting used to. Who needs punctuation?

It just gets hard for me during dialogue. I've been reading avidly for 25+ years and I feel like I read at a pretty high level, but there have been several sections that I've had to go back and read through again.

I like it better his way too. Though a few times i went back to confirm who was who

FInished the Dave Brubeck biography. Well written, just a little heavy on music theory, and not a linear biography per se. Still learned a lot though.

Also finished Olen Steinhauer's All the Old Knives, which was excellent. Very taut, sub-200 page, spy thriller which takes place in a restaurant in Carmel by the Sea, CA. Movie version is out soon-ish, staring Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton.
