Ridgebacks are awesome. Wish we had the lifestyle that could accommodate one into our family. Frankly, we are far too sedentary. lol

Who is the flag for, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah he's crazy crazy energetic

My half-brother's father

I should note that this picture is taken over my brothers house in cranberry while I'm here visiting and the dog lives here with him but I picked him out at animal friends

Pretty sure that my German Shepherd would have the same reaction... To being reunited with my golden retriever, not us. Lol

Mrs. Franchise stepped on the dog and fell down yesterday. Now they are both limping and may be headed to the doc

Lolol

I felt really bad when I'd step on my gsd but the other dogs are too dumb and usually get what's coming to them

My family's dog (well... really my dad's dog. She loved him) of 14 years was put down today. She wasn't eating, moving, couldn't control her bowels, etc.

Here's a pic of her from about 4 years ago:

RIP, Jenny.

We've had to put down our two oldest cats, Lenny and Squiggy - 17 year old brothers, within the last few months. RIP boys.

Our cat Tiber used to sit on my shoulder but then he got too big. Now he won't even let me pick him up for too long.

But we do this thing where he comes and stands right in front of me on my lap. I smooch the top of his head and pet him and then I tackle hug him (mostly just me going Arrr! Like a pirate) he holds onto the couch for dear life but then he just let's up and let's me pet him and he even presses his head to my face.

Usually he would give warning bites to us if he didn't like being petted but he doesn't do that, so is it like an elaborate game to him? Does he have that capacity? Is some of the fun to see if he can get away or is it like he just gives up and let's me pet him?

I wish we spoke cat language.

Yes.

Surface folding and brain structure matter more than brain size. Unlike the brains of dogs, the brains of cats have an amazing surface folding and a structure that is about 90 percent similar to ours. The cerebral cortex of cats is greater and more complex compared to that of dogs. The cerebral cortex is the part of the brain responsible for cognitive information processing. A cat's cerebral cortex contains about twice as many neurons as that of dogs. Cats have 300 million neurons (link is external), whereas dogs have about 160 million. In fact, cats have more nerve cells in the visual areas of their brain (link is external), a part of cerebral cortex, than humans and most other mammals.

Like brain size, number of neurons in the cerebral cortex may not be a good indicator of intelligence. But it's a better indicator than brain size. The cerebral cortex is the seat of rational decision making and complex problem solving. It also interprets inputs from the senses and from emotional processing that occurs subcortically. It is involved in the planning of action, the interpretation of language (or other forms of communication), and it is responsible for the storage of short-term and long-term memory. Cats have longer-lasting memories than dogs, especially when they learn by doing rather than seeing.

My husky did not shed last year, presumably because she was still growing? For the past week, every night i have brushed her for about half an hour and got about a cubic foot of fur clumped on the floor each night. Its pretty impressive.
