Happy 10th birthday to my goldendoodle Molly. She came to us ten months before our first was born and has been a great big sister to both kids.

She got a cactus toy tonight (among others)

Petfinder is terrific. Lots of pet stores (PetSmart especially) host rescue adoption clinics on the weekend. All of ours are rescues.

Taking Geno to the vet tomorrow. I know I mentioned a few pages back of his issues he's been having. They have gotten worse over the past month or so. He seems to just randomly both pee and poop in the house now and doesn't remember how to signal to to go outside, or does it even after he's been outside. He's more detached from everyone and is sleeping a ton during the day and just walking up and down the hallway.

Then over this weekend Friday night he had some diarrhea and was throwing up...took him outside multiple times. He didn't really want to eat at all Saturday. Saturday night... rinse and repeat. Yesterday he seemed a bit better, so gave him some boiled chicken and rice which he ate. Then last night...same thing only worse (including heavy panting/breating), went out no less than 5 times to have bloody diarrhea and throw up. I'm exhausted.

I'm worried that he basically has doggy dementia at this point and just doesn't remember what he needs to do to go outside. I think he is also going partially deaf as you could be right next to him yell his name and he just stares off into space. The blood in the stool really worried me this morning as well as the heavy panting last night. I hope it's nothing serious, but he just turned 11...so I'm preparing for bad news.

Ugh...unfortunately, that's a fairly familiar set of symptoms to me...we were able to buy her some time, hopefully you can get a full-on cure...

So update on Geno...

Has two large bladder stones, his teeth are in real bad shape and are causing some infections (was aware of this somewhat from last trip), his kidney numbers are a bit elevated, but they think that's because of the infections. He's also dehydrated etc. They think the bladder stones are causing the random peeing everywhere recently. The infections from his teeth are causing gastro problems in his stomach which is then causing throwing up and diarrheas.

They are keeping him there for a few days to give him IV fluids and antibiotics. They will then recheck his kidney numbers. After he recovers and doesn't have infections they will then go in and remove the bladder stones as well was pull any teeth that are too far gone.

He will then go on a specific kidney related dog food to help there and hopefully be on the mend.

All in all this is going to cost me around 4k when all is said and done, but what can you do. The vet is actually taking Geno home with her tonight and not leaving him at their office to monitor him. She gave me her personal cell phone if I wanted to check in at any point. (I'll just call the office rather than bother her on her personal cell, but it was a nice gesture).

I really like our vets office as they are always up front and honest and super nice people that seem to truly care about the animals they take care of.

That's way better than I thought it would be when I saw you were the last post in the thread. Sounds like a really thoughtful and thorough vet, that's awesome. Our vet was the opposite and we believe it ended up costing us a year or two with the pup and a few grand extra in procedures that ultimately did nothing but prolong the inevitable.

Good luck to Geno.
