All Things Guns & Ammo
Been looking at this 20 gauge Mossberg 500 and I think I'm going to be buying one soon, and adding a rail system and a LaserLyte Kryptonyte sight.

I think it'll be a good home defense gun that can be accurately shot from the hip, and that the wife can easily shoot.

Just get a RC helicopter to protect your airspace. That is literally the dumbest idea I've ever seen realized.
There's a guy who flies a drone in my neighborhood; I need to find a suitable solution to that particular annoyance.
I was thinking more along the lines of a pellet gun. But the laser idea is not without its merits...........I take tif as more of a ground-based laser defense kind of guy.

Give us all a review if you get that LaserLyte. That looks like a really neat sight.Been looking at this 20 gauge Mossberg 500 and I think I'm going to be buying one soon, and adding a rail system and a LaserLyte Kryptonyte sight.

My new toy, a kimber custom II 1911. Won it at a sportsman's bash yesterday on a $5 choice of table. Thing is absolutely beautiful

So you got a Kimber for $5? I hate you.
All Things Guns & Ammo
In a vacuum yes. I spent $100 to get in and about another $100 before I won... Not to mention all the bashes I've gone to in the past and lost.

I'm really thinking about getting an AK here in the next couple of months. I have an AR - but I love the AK build.

No cross-collateralization; it's not like previous money went towards the Kimber. In a vacuum yes. I spent $100 to get in and about another $100 before I won... Not to mention all the bashes I've gone to in the past and lost.
Also, I hate you.

All Things Guns & Ammo
Today I was driving home from NJ and on the PA pike. I needed gas and stopped at the Blue Mtn. rest stop. I filled up my Jeep but the receipt didn't print, so I left my Jeep at the pump and went into the plaza to get a printed receipt. When I came back outside (approx. 10 min. later - it took a while) a guy was filling up his pickup and parked on the opposite side of the pump from me. When I returned, he said, "Thanks for parking at the pump @sshole!" I glanced a bit in his direction and he said, "Yeah, I'm talking to you mother*cker." I ignored him and got into my Jeep and he continued yelling and swearing as I buckled up and got ready to leave. As I started up my Jeep, he backed his truck in front of me, preventing me from leaving and screamed out his window what a f-ing a-hole I was for leaving my Jeep at the pump, that I was a fat f-ing loser, etc.
I remained calm for about a good minute of this then told him to f off and get the f out of my way. That increased his anger by about 10x and he was screaming so loud people at other pumps started to pay attention. He kept shouting profanities and then opened his truck door and said, "Do you want me to get out? I'll get out!" I went back to ignoring him and put up my windows. Another minute passed and he left, probably because his wife or girlfriend in the passenger seat told him what a psycho he was being.
Now, I probably was an a-hole for leaving my Jeep at the pump but I didn't feel like starting it, driving 5 feet and parking, and shutting it off again. I get bad gas mileage as is. Plus, there were at least 4 empty pumps when I left and 2 or 3 empty pumps when I returned. The reason I'm typing all of this is because it got me thinking about self-defense. I didn't have my pistol and I rarely do unless I'm going to or coming from the range, so that wasn't an option. But if I had been carrying, would it have been legal to show it to him (not point it at him) when he was blocking me from leaving the pump? I probably will never carry even though I have my permit, but now I'm curious as to how the law works in situations like this.

No, and it's unethical and specifically taught as a big no-no in CCW courses. You take it out when you're ready to fire it. Taking it out as a threat opens you up to all kinds of liability and does nothing but escalate the situation. For instance, if you flash your weapon and a third party sees it, assumes the worst, and opens fire on either of you, you share part of that responsibility.Source of the post ...would it have been legal to show it to him (not point it at him) when he was blocking me from leaving the pump?

That's what I assumed. I can definitely understand why a lot of people do carry all the time, but instances like this are a good example of why I don't. If I'd have had my pistol in my Jeep and he'd have started coming toward me, I don't know how I would have reacted. I mean, I'm 100% sure I wouldn't have shot (heck, I don't even keep it loaded in the house & the only time I have rounds in the magazine is when I load it at the range), but I could have been tempted to show it and tell him to back off and let me leave. No, and it's unethical and specifically taught as a big no-no in CCW courses. I probably would've hit him with my car when he opened his door.

As part of a lawsuit settlement, Taurus is voluntarily recalling more than a million of their semi-auto pistols. The affected models are the PT-111 Millennium; PT-132 Millennium; PT-138 Millennium; PT-140 Millennium; PT-145 Millennium; PT-745 Millennium; PT-609; PT-640; and PT-24/7. The suit alleged that these pistols can fire when dropped—even if the safeties are engaged at the time.

PT 740? That's my EDC.
All Things Guns & Ammo
From all of the stories I've read on this, the allegations are limited to the listed models. Considering this was a pretty big lawsuit, if there were problems with other models I think those other models would have been included.PT 740? That's my EDC.

Cool. I know Taurus gets a bad name, but I have not had any problems wwith my 740 slim. I wanted something that could take abuse. I am outside a lot, and wanted something to carry when offroading. If I dropped a $600 glock in the mud, I'd be kind of upset. For under $300, the thing goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

It is acceptable to use deadly force, at least in SC, if you can be deemed to have used reasonable force by a reasonable person. Now what you would have going for you is castle doctrine applies to being in your car in most cases, mainly to prevent car jackings. But in the scenario described, I wouldn't have felt that my life was in danger or that I would sustain permanent harm by an dadhole yelling at me from his car and blocking me in. If you wanted to escalate you could call the cops for unlawful detainment or kidnapping and assault for the implied threats of harm but that's about it.
I'd have to see him come out of the car with something that could be used as a weapon before the idea of drawing would come into play but even then I'd probably hit him with my car first and speed away calling the cops on him that he was threatening me.

Okay, so that's two votes for hitting him with the car. I like that.
