All Things Guns & Ammo

Ha. Just coming in here to post that. Great news. Colt has been effing up and teetering in and out of bankruptcy for years. CZ is a solid company that makes great products and has a strong business. CZ has been making 1911-style guns under the Dan Wesson name for years. I wonder if those guns will now be branded as Colts.

Not sure if its true, but one of the things I've heard about Colt was that a lot of their machinery was outdated and worn out, but they didn't have the money to upgrade. That's why their product lineup has been mostly stagnant. For years, Colt survived on military contracts because they had the exclusive manufacturing rights for the M4 carbine, but that's no longer the case, and I believe FN now manufactures the M4 for the US military. I hope CZ can inject funds and revitalize the Colt product lineup. They could certainly update their lineup of AR-style rifles, that's for sure.
Looonnng time ago, I actually owned a few shares of CZ (right after it was privatized). That's about as close as my life-paths got ever tangled with "Guns and Ammo" (well, that plus the fact that my college roommate and the best man at my wedding has been the CEO of https://www.sellier-bellot.cz/en/ for the last 20 years. :) )

Oh, man, I hope your friend has profit sharing or gets stock options. He'd be making a freaking fortune right now. Every ammo company has something like a year's worth of backorders at the moment.

I went to Walmart yesterday and was able to get all of the ammo they had, which was not only 2 boxes of 12ga target loads, but also a box of 50 22JHPs.

It was like hitting the lottery!

A friend of a friend wasn't paying close attention and bought 8 boxes of Sellier & Bellot .357 SIG when he wanted to buy .357 Magnum. I agreed to buy it from him. It's 140-grain FMJ, which is interesting to me because I've never seen 140-grain bullets before for any 9mm-based cartridge. I've been trying to find appropriate bullets to load .357 SIG myself, but it's darn hard to find anything in stock.

My favorite gun-related April Fools from yesterday:

Is that a Deagle in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?

My armorer buddy sent me a pic of that, just now realizing it's fake. As someone that CCs an M9 it's not terribly far fetched.

Long shot but if anyone comes across a Brownells BRN-16a1 let me know, my Dad is looking and ready to buy.

Managed to order a couple boxes of bullets for a pre-WWII S&W Military & Police Model of 1905, 4th Change, chambered in .38 S&W (not .38 Special). The S&W is a way older cartridge that despite the close name is not related to the .38 Special and uses its own unique diameter of bullets (0.361). Bought it from an older relative who purchased it surplus probably 50 years ago under the mistaken impression that it was a .38 Special. Smith made a bunch of these revolvers before and during WWII for foreign sale because the British had adopted a heavy-bullet variant of the .38 S&W as the .38/200, which was their standard revolver cartridge from the '20s to the early '60s. This gun probably hasn't been fired in more than 60 years. It doesn't have any British military markings but does have a secondary serial number, so I'm thinking maybe more along the lines of it once having been a police gun somewhere in the British Commonwealth, or something like that.

He doesn't want to buy the upper and lower himself and build it? I feel like I see these pieces come up through e-mail pretty consistently, but they're separated.

He bought an A4 clone and had them set it with an A1 style stock and a carry handle. He's pretty happy with it. I'm not a fan of the hand guards that he has but he likes them. He came over to the house about two weeks ago and we shot about 100 rounds off. 'Murica.

I find it suspect, like the lumber pricing, except this stuff can be manufactured, so I expect prices to remain the same going forward, even after the "shortage" is over.

So basically a Kel-Tec KSG but with (hopefully) better production quality? Interesting.

I have a product recommendation. Being a fat guy, I've never been all that big a fan of IWB holsters, but with my weight loss they now work better for me, and I now have a bunch of way-too-big shorts and pants that have plenty of room for an IWB holster. I bought a StealthGearUSA Ventcore holster for my Kahr PM9, and I've been using it for a couple months. While it's a little thicker than similar leather-backed holsters from companies like Crossbreed, I've found the ventilated neoprene backing to be very cool and comfortable even on really hot days, and I've had no chafing or anything like that even with the holster up against my skin. StealthGearUSA's holsters are definitely on the more expensive side, but I would say they're worth it. If anyone needs a holster for CCW, give them a look.

Springfield is now making a Hi-Power:

The main "upgrade" appears to be the elimination of the magazine safety, which should significantly improve the trigger pull. It also holds 15 rounds versus the original's 13 rounds thanks to improved magazines, which are backwards compatible with original Hi-Powers.

From my fattest, I'm down 50 lbs. and 4" in waist size. Hence, I now have a bunch of pants and shorts that have more than enough room for IWB carry.

The gun club up on the ridge (about a mile as the crow flies) is having a machine gun shoot today. It literally sounds like the Soviets have just parachuted into Amish Country.
