Thanks everyone. This space is going to be awesome and I hope 2021 allows for in person events again. We're trying to source as much as we can locally so if anyone here, preferably someone who lives on the east end, has a skill, trade, or business feel free to hit me up.

There will be open mic opportunities once Covid allows. You want a spot and it's yours. :D

Had a kind of bittersweet moment last night. Prime Video published an older George Carlin hour special. Not the typical HBO one, this one was hosted by Jon Stewart. The first 20 minutes or so is a clip show, then a half-hour of Carlin, and then the last 10 minutes was a sit down between George and Jon.

What struck me is that much of the material in the Carlin live portion was new. I listen to a lot of Carlin, far more than any other comedian, so I was pretty floored to find that there was actual material out there that was mature and refined that I had never heard. Most of the 'new' material I come across is scratchy old recordings of him in a club in the '70s.

The bitter part was that the material was centered around dog euthanasia as being akin to 'calling a hit out on your dog.'

Doh, still raw, been 9 months. I laughed, though. Thanks George.

I managed to see Carlin live back in 2000-1. Really good, except half the show was his previous HBO special...and the rest was the one he put out the year after. That's how most touring comedians work. So good though, and glad I got to see him live.

The wife and I got to see him at State College (Eisenhower) in 2006. We kept the tickets and taped them to the inside cover of our copy of Napalm and Silly Puddy. I'm really glad we went since he ended up passing away just two years later.

Bill Burr has a new stand up special he is performing live at Nowhere Comedy Club this Saturday. It's sold out but it pays to know the guy who owns the virtual club. Love Bill Burr.

Mulaney's addiction battles are somehow more surprising because he looks so put together on stage. You look like a guy like Mitch or (worse) Artie, and your first thought is "yeah, that guy does a lot of drugs".

Don't get the same first impression with him. Not that it means anything.

Woof. Not a good look for either of them, which isn’t unfamiliar territory for Munn.

The first time we saw Eddie Izzard live, it was in a room with a fire code occupancy limit of 75 people. She was woodshedding that night, as that Mulaney article mentions he was writing on stage. And in 2019 when we last saw her, she was still doing jokes based on that same material they were working on that first night almost 10 years earlier. It was actually kinda cool to see how that material had developed over the years.

Why aren't the Carlin stand up shows on HBO Max? Or any of those old stand up specials for that matter?

This doesn't answer your question, but a lot of Carlin is on YouTube...and I think maybe Amazon Prime...? I saw one somewhere not long ago...

I think Eddie Murphy's stuff was on Netflix recently...or whatever had Coming 2 America on it...

EDIT: TubiTV has Carlin's specials...
