Ours was supposed to be Jim Jeffries, but that was scheduled for the actual day the pandemic shutdowns started (March 13, 2020). So I guess the actual last standup we saw was Eddie Izzard..... who is also probably going to be the next standup we see in October.

Heh, so was mine...
And to be clear, Attel is always great. I’ve seen him twice now and would see him twice more if he toured here

I forget where I saw him last - Bananas comedy club in Jersey, maybe? - but we were in the front row and he included me in his set with some questions for a bit he was doing. That was great.

It’s one of those things like Don Rickles - I want to be one of the people he roasts. It’d be an honor.

I don't remember ever seeing an update on that story before; if there was one and I'm blanking on it, my apologies. Either way, I'm glad it ended with you actually going, you'd be donkey kicking yourself for the rest of your days if you hadn't.

Have you seen the Comedy Store docu-series on Amazon? It's from a couple years ago, and was directed by Mike Binder. Shows a few rough-around-the-edges bit (some parts are overly long, for example), but otherwise it's a pretty solid warts-and-all work of reverence and respect for one of the true Meccas of modern standup.

Edit: The documentary is actually on Showtime, but we subscribed through Amazon. I confuse myself easily.

Yeah, Bert's nothing...thanks for Van Wilder, but he doesn't do much for me...particularly as a stand-up...in the perfect venue, he's passable...but, meh...

Wife and I are going to Whose Live is it Anyway? on Saturday night, and Rhys Darby on Tuesday night. Should be a fun(ny) week.

Whose Live Anyway? was outstanding, as expected. Highlight of the night for me was somebody giving Greg Proops **** for mispronouncing Bernie Parent’s name, and him immediately turning around and asking when the last time the Flyers won a championship was. I swear to all that is holy that I was the only one clapping and howling loudly at that, haha.

Greg Proops, Ryan Stiles, Jeff Davis and Joel Murray (Bill Murray’s brother). I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of improv.

Go and let me know how much they made fun of some of the dummies in the front row at our show, haha.

I just looked at tickets and it is pretty much sold out minus some of the $75 seats towards the front.

Saw a clip of Jeselnik one some podcast recently where he says something about "offending" people that I really got behind. Video should play at the start of the quote, it's about a 40-second bit -- would be curious what other people think:

Is that the one where he says offending people is super easy. It’s hard to be funny and say offensive things. Or something like that?

Yeah that's in the ballpark I'd say. Here's a cleaned up transcription:
AJ: And [there's] all these comics now where it's amost like, the point is to get in trouble. It's like, "why are you giving me ****? I'm a comic. I'm allowed to say whatever I want." That's wrong as far as I'm concerned--

Guy: Oh wait, say it again. So I don't mess it up--

AJ: They think like, oh, as a comic, your job is to get in trouble. But they don't wanna get yelled at. It's like, "it's okay to make people mad," but they don't want any pushback. And I think that's wrong. As a comedian, you wanna make people laugh. This is a quote attributed to Andy Warhol that I love. It's just: "Art is getting away with it." If you put out a special and everyone's pissed, you didn't get away with it. You need to make everyone laugh [so] that they're like, yeah, he talked about **** up stuff, but we're all happy.

Guy: That's art.

AJ: Otherwise you're just a troll.

Better get this new George Carlin before the lawsuit eliminates it.

A few of us have been watching Loudermilk, a three season comedy show that ran from 2017-2020 and is currently on Netflix. One of the stars (Will Sasso) is behind that Carlin AI thing.
