Just one more division loss.

Their performance against the division made no sense this year.

I came into this game knowing Cole had to get 6 innings without giving up a run. After the first inning was over.

But that doesn't take away from this season. Pirates are a good team and will still be a good team next year. This is a fun team to watch and root for and should still be next year.

So was this Neil Walker's last game in a Pirate uniform? I hope not.

lol. The details of the last two WC games are foggy to me (by design) but I definitely remember him and Marte laying a gigantic egg in the Cards series.

The last time the Pirates scored a run in the playoffs was 2013.
Before that it was 1992 so...

The whole idea of a one game playoff was just a stupid idea to create false tension. March Madness is fun, but its a terrible way to decide who's really the best team.

They can't go to 3 game series. This is the only option.

You can't really compare baseball to another sport in a 1 game playoff. Pitcher is a vital part and every team has multiple starters. Even in March Madness there isn't much fluctuation if any of the starters. And even then you can put them back in.

Get rid of the wild card game. Take the three divisional winners and the best non divisional winner.

This seems like such a simple out, but TV ratings

I'd be for that as well. Actually I'd prefer to go to 2 divisions per league with 7 teams per division and that would be it, but I don't think thats an option.

For those among us that are / were opposed to a shoot out to end a hockey game, the current MLB wildcard system applies. Line up your best shooters against our goalie and one more puck than ours that beats the goalie is a win. What a joke. Shorten the season by 4 games and play best of 3. Damn, there is enough F-ing TV revenue to make it happen! The young stars that play in sudden death will make up for a chartered plane in TV ad time. TBS carries the playoffs until the world series. What's next after this contract is done? MSNBC? Spike? MTV?

MLB is sooooo steeped in history to not understand why the sport is dying in interest and actual fan attendance once your local team is done after 4 months of play.

Thank You to the Pirates for keeping me tuned to a TV during the summer months. This team soooooo deserves better than a single game in post season!

Holy crap, this is a miserable place.
Yay the Pirates almost scored a run!! That better?? Piss off.
I really wasn't trying to troll. I'm not a big GDT guy, but I always thought some sort of order was maintained in Pens threads. On the other hand, cynicism and contempt seem like prerequisites to participating in here sometimes. You've got Godric trolling about bets, arguments over which ultimately non-blameworthy player is to blame...

I dunno, maybe my more stoic lifestyle has robbed me of being a fan of teams, I just found it to be gratingly obnoxious and felt like the Pirates deserved better than that. But I can see how that post from a regular observer but irregular poster (in this thread) seemed like a troll attempt.

We still want to blow the lineup up and build it around Polanco, who is a below average hitter so far as a major league hitter?
You're being trolled @Troy Loney
If your going to pick a goat for this game it has to be Marte. Unless of course your Rocco and hoard axes to grind.

I'm not sure that I can watch that Cards and Cubs series.

That was a fun year for the Bucs. On to the hot stove!

I think they might do something to fill the black hole at 1B, but man, that's a beautiful line-up beyond that.

Morse sucks. Why would they start him at 1B?

He wouldn't be my first choice or even my second or third, but he wasn't terrible while he was here.

.275 (which is also his career average) with no errors this past season.

Morse is just keeping 1B warm for Josh Bell's arrival in June.

I just do not see anyway that either Walker or Alvarez are here past the winter meetings.

I also would not be surprised to see Mark Melancon dealt, as that is NH's modus operandi with closers.

This isn't the time for a long manifesto on the pirates future.

Cole actually pitched a fine game to everyone that isnt named fowler or schweiber.

Also big props to all of the jagoffs in the 100 level that sold their tickets to those cub fans.

Yeah there seemed to be quite a Cubs contingent at PNC last night.
