I just made the switch from Apple Podcasts to Spotify. I was tired of having to download episodes and Apple's streaming on the Podcast app is garbage. Thoughts on Spotify for podcasts?

I did the same thing about six months ago. Took a week or so to adjust, but all good now. The only thing I listened to on Apple that’s not on Spotify is Real Time.

I may have to check that out. Maybe I'm getting too old, but it's hard to figure out how to use the Apple podcasts properly.

If you download the episodes, it works fairly well. Streaming is god awful for some reason. There's a long delay when playing and it buffers quite a bit. Spotify seems flawless so far. I might miss the charts, though. Also, Pittsburgh Oddcast is not on Spotify.

Yeah, I haven’t had any issue steaming on Spotify. Once you get used to the interface it’s quite a bit better I’d say.

When the default setting in the app is to play the last episodes first, there's something wrong with the platform. And it took a google search for me to figure out how to reverse that.

Accidentally hitting the Play Next button is also a death sentence. Can't switch to another podcast after that, because it'll always switch back to the "Next" episode. Again, maybe a me problem, but really annoying.

Pocketcasts for me. Though I have been wishing for a platform with a web presence so I can listen on a PC. It never mattered before but now that I rarely commute I am way behind on episodes.

That’s another reason why I wanted to move to Spotify for streaming. I use the website app for music every day on the PC.

I was for about half an episode. It kind of condensed everything shitty about hockey players into a few hours of word vomit every few days; with a focus on Boston.

Had to have been an earlier episode then.

Give it another chance.

Chiclets is pretty good, the episodes are just so long. I should give it another shot now I'm WFH. 2 hour episodes turned into 5 hours at the office with people interrupting and stuff.

I always turn the playback speed up on audiobooks and podcasts to either 1.25X or 1.5X. NPR hosts can be sped up even more, as they speak r e a l l y s l o w l y and enunciate everything.

I usually skip right to the interviews. They time stamp stuff in Spotify most of the time.

Ty Franck - one half of James S.A. Corey, authors of The Expanse books and TV series, and Wes Chatham (Amos on The Expanse) started a podcast where they discuss each episode in the series, starting at the beginning. They will be discussing other pop culture items of interest, including a lot of the books/series' influences. The first episode has a great discussion on Alien and how The Expanse took the "working man" approach to the initial look at space travel.

Not sure @tifosi77 watches The Expanse, but it would be worth checking out. It's called Ty and That Guy.

Yeah, on Alien the main direction to the art department (for everyone not named Giger) was "truckers in space". Star Wars was the first piece of space fantasy that imagined a lived-in and grimy world, and Ridley Scott really wanted to double down on that.

Never watched The Expanse, but it does seem like it'd be up my alley.

Does anyone listen to the Crime in Sports podcast? Two comedians retelling stories of crimes committed by professional athletes. Sounds promising.

I just listened to one, as I had never heard of it before...it has some upside...I listened to Oscar Pistorius one, it's a lot of information, it could easily be cut down to 90 minutes not lose any information really...but it made fun of crippled children and a blind man that climbed Mt. Everest, so it checked off two big podcast boxes for me...

They aren't as sharp (probably, it's only been one episode) as Opie & Anthony, for instance...but they have a subject that they talk about, so it can hold your interest even if it's not the most hilarious thing...I'll give it a couple more episodes as background noise...

If you need a relatable entry point (though, I'm sure one of those Eye-talian Mario Karters that you like does some ****** up **** too), #131 is Billy Tibbetts...

Actually, I found it because their most recent episode was Scott Tucker. An amateur racer that built his empire with payday lending companies based out of Native American tribes. He also got his own episode of Dirty Money on Netflix.

I skipped the first two entirely and fast-forwarded to the mailbag for the last one. It's such a lame, lame week.
