So since Shaf hadn't posted one yet, and there's already a non-NASCAR thread, seems time enough for a NASCAR thread for the news and topics in and around NASCAR and its various touring series, as well as other stock car and modified series out there at various local and regional venues. I.e. ARCA and ASA aren't NASCAR sanctioned but they are stock cars and run on many of the same tracks. Also includes the various regional touring series and the Modifieds, as well as the Canadian Tire series up north and the Mexico series to the south, which are NASCAR-affiliated, though I suspect most of the conversation will be Sprint Cup related.

Just reading that paragraph makes me wish I had my iRacing rig up. I haven't been behind the wheel of a sim Modified in a long while.

Oh, rel. I'm "Illegitimate Earnhardt" in that NASCAR league. Saw you joined even later than me.

Yeah, whoever that was that posted in the other place about it. I got on there last Friday, just a hare too late to count for Fontana but I at least set a lineup.

Kyle Larson faints at an autograph signing at Martinsville today, taken to hospital. Will need doctor clearance to race tomorrow.

Two points, NASCAR:

Maybe fewer cars at Martinsville if we're going to have a caution every 20 laps.

Tire changers, put the tire on its side and it won't roll away. You're welcome.

Hamlin overcame that to win after Gordon got penalized for too fast entering on the final set of stops - bad luck on timing lines (or, rather, not knowing that their box was just on the other side of the line they got penalized for). Gordon charged back up to 9th after starting tail end of some 23 cars on the lead lap.

Danica with her best ever finish of 7th, and Harvick's streak of top-2s comes to an end with an 8th place finish.

Oh, and Regan Smith subbed for Larson today. Had a spin among others but had a decent day.

That post win drift and burnout was pretty legit, though.

That was the best celebration I've seen in a while, that's for sure.

The way they are talking (about neurologists) for Kyle Larson makes me wonder if he might be having concussion symptoms. But I honestly don't remember whether he was involved in a wreck last week or not at Fontana.

(Maybe this is akin to Earnhardt blacking out at Darlington and wrecking/spinning under yellow one year late in his career.

Wow, huge penalty on the RCR 31 team of Ryan Newman over the Fontana tire caper. 75 points, 125k fine, and 6 week suspension for the crew chief and tire guys.

how did they manage the schedule to have Bristol after the off weekend, and after Texas even. That'll be near 3 weeks later than usual. Don't they remember they used to run Richmond after Daytona in the 1980s? (back when it was a half mile before the redesign, and well before the night races)

They're still all abuzz about the "short track swing" but just imagine if you still had Nashville Fairgrounds and North Wilkesboro still on the schedule twice a season.

I wish we had a dirt track near me...closest track is Mobile International. Went to the ARCA race there three years ago.

Hey guys,

Just came in to finally celebrate the Hamlin win. Glad to see this thread is up and kicking.

Also, what's up with the 48? He won a race, but he hasn't been JJ like at all. Moreover, when was the last time you saw him struggle at Martinsville? His average finish there is like 6.

I don't have a good answer. I think I watched most of Fontana and Martinsville but missed most of Daytona, Phoenix and Vegas.

Steve Byrnes in ICU with pneumonia and blood clots, on top of cancer. Pretty heartbreaking.

Wow. It's been a long hard road for him the last year plus. He's one of the good guys.

Looks like your calling out was heard in the 48 shop, as they run away with Texas. Heck of a finish between the 4 and the 88 for 2nd at the end. Harvick is on a heck of a run. Amazing to think that the rest of SHR, outside of a great race by Kurt Busch a couple weeks ago, has been mostly AWOL.

Kurt at least had speed this week but he fell apart. Harvick is the only driver running significantly better than his team, though. The Hendrick cars are mostly fast together and the Penske and and JGR cars drive around together.

Richard Childress Racing tire changer suffers burns in pit road fire.
(It starts at the very beginning of the clip)

Motor sport at all levels has embraced moves towards safer and safer racing over the last 30-35 years; too much so, imo, in the wake of the deaths of Ayrton Senna in 1994 and Dale Earnhardt in 2001. But why categories still embrace 'hot' refueling baffles me.

How often has this happened? Once every few years? And they're wearing some really great fire suits. Stop with the knee-jerk reaction, Nancy. ;)

At least they're not using Methanol anymore, what a stupid idea that was.
