I remember an Indy 500 I watched sometime in the 1980's where a guy was had been burned in a methonal fire, yet due to that kind of fire you could not "see" the flames, but his suit had melted in the butt area.

Obligatory Danica Insult
1 win since she shifted to cars at 12 or 13 years of age. Which is only one more than all of 5AF put together.

I won a couple real honest to goodness official go-kart races when I was young...but we did not have money/resources/name to really go much further in the sport than just my dad and I fooling around around in the back yard with 4-stroke engine.

Felt like the 88 would never win at Talladega again...great win in dominating fashion.

A race I had to hear on radio for the last 20 laps.Felt like the 88 would never win at Talladega again...great win in dominating fashion.
Love the result. But still wonder what the heck NASCAR's policy is on whether to throw the yellow or not, as this was in stark contrast to the end of the Daytona 500. Seemed Earnhardt learned well from the Spring 2006 race, where the 48 had a run going into turn 3 but Vickers in the 25 turned the 48 into the 8 and spun both. But also learned from recent times that Johnson wouldn't jeopardize the 1-2 until the point where he could flip the order and nothing else.

The downside of methanol is that it burns with a flame that was very hard to see—and nearly impossible in bright sunlight. The upside of methanol is that it's much easier to put out a methanol fire because alcohol is water soluble. All you have to do to put out a methanol fire is dump water on it. In the video you posted you can see crew members throwing buckets of water. Putting water on a gasoline fire just spreads the fire around; we all know, for example, to never put water on a grease fire, and gasoline isn't much different. Like we can see in the NASCAR video, you need stuff like chemical foams to quickly put out a gasoline fire. Indy cars traditionally ran on alcohol because USAC actually banned the use of gasoline as a safety measure following the horrific fire at the 1964 Indy 500 that killed Eddie Sachs and Dave MacDonald. They wanted a fuel that would be quicker/easier to douse in emergencies, and they viewed the lack of a visible flame as an acceptable tradeoff. At least they're not using Methanol anymore, what a stupid idea that was.

Is that what that one Indy book is about? Black Noon or something like that?

Yeah. Indy's rules were pretty wide open back then, and that included choice of fuel. Plenty of teams were already using alcohol blends, but you could use gasoline if you wanted too, and Dave MacDonald's car was running on gasoline. Is that what that one Indy book is about? Black Noon or something like that?

Truex is so due. Three consecutive races leading the most laps...
How about Buescher on Saturday taking out his teammate to win...

Not sure about the Buescher deal. He got into his bumper a lap earlier, and then couldn't hold it low the next time they got to 3 & 4 and flat used him up. At the same time, they're teammates and somebody ought to be telling Bubba that there's no way he's going to hold him off conserving fuel for 10 laps and to make life a bit easier on Chris.
Cup race was meh. Same story, different verse it feels like. It honestly feels like watching the NBA anymore, just tune in for the last quarter of the race or so (even less recently).

I'm really hoping that this ground-roots "Drivers Council" that has appeared in the last several months will lead to some real changes in NASCAR, but Brian France rivals Gary Bettman as the worst commissioner in sports. Not sure about the Buescher deal.
