They are totally going to redo Atlanta Motor Speedway. Up the banking to 28 degrees in the turns and reconfigure the whole track.

Hey look, a track with weathered asphalt that puts on good races...let's change it!

Imagine today's cars with the 1985 rule restricting yellow-flag stops to 2 tires only, with a 2-lap penalty for taking 3 or 4. (Just getting around to the YT video of the 1985 Valleydale 500 at Bristol. Terry Labonte team had changed rights, then noticed they had a left side tire down. TV asked the crew chief about it - wasn't happy about the penalty but had to admit they'd have lost that much time had they had to go around and come back in.

Larson wins again at Kansas, third win in a row (2nd time this season for that feat) and 9th overall. Last time a driver had two such streaks in a season was Earnhardt in 1987 (streaks of 4 and 3). In the pre-chase world, he may have already wrapped up the title. Instead, it's still just a one-off who finishes best in the final race at Phoenix. I do like the 5 strategy though - keep up the performance.

Elliott and Hamlin are +30 to the cut line, with Busch (+1), Blaney (-1), Truex (-3) and Keselowski (-6) +/- a couple points off of the cutoff. Logano is pretty much must-win at this point at -26. But that's only because of Blaney's late wreck, where he went from 9 & 11 territory back to the pack, rescuing the rest from being deeper in the field.

And on a side note, I only now just realized that NASCAR jettisoned the regional series - east and west - after 2019. Appears ARCA picked up those circuits. At one point, the West series was the same equipment as Cup, and the East was same as the Busch Grand National. (It took clicking on a r-r link for Hailee Deegan to discover the series demise)

Yep, what was the Winston/K&N West died or was merged with ARCA.
ARCA is a combination of 4 or 5 different spec equivalencies which is just ticking people off and culling the field to Cup-Lite teams.

I have to admit, the new cars look great.

In the past they've either been too jelly bean or comically angled like a low-res video game render. This year's car has actual lines, and the big wheels look fantastic. The cars have hips and you can tell them apart now. They remind me of the high end cars that show up at my time trial events.
It's a shame the transaxles are made of papier-mache. But they'll figure that out.

Do you follow Bozi? (https://twitter.com/BoziTatarevic?s=20)

He's had great insight on the Next Gen cars and had pinpointed the transaxles as a possible problem. Looks like yesterdays was more about the driveshaft connection than actually internal.

I like the idea of Bozi, and I do follow him, but he needs to cut it out with the live ****. Other Twitter needs to allow me to turn those notifications off. He's the only person I follow that triggers those notifications.

Yikes.
Meanwhile, Hey guys we have a shortage of cars, so don't do anything stupid in a meaningless qualifying race.

Keselowski took notes from his former teammate today. Nice to see another example of nepotism bring home the trophy.

Felt bad for Blaney. Also for Stenhouse too.

Yeah, YRB seems like a good dude. Would have loved to see him win.
Stenhouse has been through a lot in his career, too.

I don't know what Larson was thinking there at the end of his day. Seemed like just a mental lapse and he (and a bunch others) were done for the day.

I missed Larson's, was flipping on the stream intermittently through my daughter's bball game.

Now I remember that. The initial push was hard because of how much the outside line checked up, and I put that on the spotter not giving Larson enough notice. That he stayed on him with no pressure from behind though the trioval is on Kyle though.

I love that they made the cars slightly more modern and slightly more complicated and Denny Hamlin shits the bed. What a fraud.
