Emergency. My TV died. I need to buy a new one before game 2
I had a 9 year old samsung and it finally died.
I'm sure there's an appropriate thread for this, my apologies and mods feel free to merge.
I know pretty much nothing about TVs and have never really bought one before.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Nice looking tv. Are you mounting it on a wall or

I'm not gonna lie to ya, those all are superior machines...Sorny or Magnetbox.
For Alge - of minor note, I bought like a 43" Samsung around Black Friday. It was under $300, I think it has a nice picture. Works with my computer well - that's what I stream through, as I cut the cord two years ago. Light as a feather, which might not matter to you, unless you're going to hang it up...
But I know nothing about TVs either, but I'm happy with my somewhat blind purchase...

I've had a Vizio for several years, and I don't think they can be beat for the price.
Also, I'd be wary of getting a 4K unit until content becomes more prolific. But that's a me problem.

@Algernon LGs and Samsung are usually quality tvs. That one has a 5 star rating on Best Buy but you can always search that model number on google for tech site reviews. @Miami Vice probably can steer you in the right direction too.

Best buy is the correct answer if you want a tv that will last for any amount of time. Id probably go samsung and id buy the coverage they offer.
Dont fall for the curve gimmick...and 4k is actually getting reasonable. I wouldnt go below 120 hz

Yeah, the curve on a reasonable living-room sized TV is kinda weird. Unless you host a lot of parties and have people sitting at all angles to the screen.

Also, i think it was you that i was talking to about this, but im speaking from experience. I have a 50 something inch curved 4k samsung. Its awesome, but if i got the equivalent version without being curved, it would have been more awesome due to the substantial savings offsetting the veeeery slight downgrade from curved to not.

I had a bad customer service experience with Sammie when we got out first HDTV (A 720p DLP). This post was typed on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5.

I am fiercely brand loyal. Three Samsung tvs in casa de meow.

I want to say that the Koreans (basically LG and Samsung) are the big players when it comes to LCD panels, and a lot of other brands of TVs and computer monitors are simply buying and using their panels. I've always liked Samsung stuff, and I have a Samsung computer monitor and really like it, so if I were in the market for a TV I would echo some of the prior recommendations and look first at Samsung.

I don't understand the difference between some of these TVs that are 800 dollars and the ones that are 4 grand.

I love my Samsung. And as others have mentioned, LG is a solid brand as well. Can't go wrong with either.

If you don't understand it, you don't need the expensive TV. Seriously. Not being a wiseass...this time.I don't understand the difference between some of these TVs that are 800 dollars and the ones that are 4 grand.
Get at least 120Hz.
If you have wifi, get a Smart TV.
If you are connecting things to it, make sure you have 4 HDMI inputs.
