Go pitcher this year, continue to tank and get the HS bat next year.

So reading through all of these, unless something drastically changes the Pirates are taking a bat at #1. Just a question of it being a high school SS or the Louisville C. Regarding Davis, his bat is really good, he has a great arm behind the plate, scouts say pitch framing is viewed as teachable, and the expectation is that robo umps will be happening sooner rather than later. Leiter allowed 15 hits and 12 earned runs in 15.1 innings over a three start stretch before getting shut down for a week and has dropped as high school players are able to put more film together.

Scouts seem split 50/50 on Mayer vs. Lawlar. Lawlar is better defensively and will be able to stick at SS. Mayer is bigger and may need to move to 3B, but has more projectable power that hasn't shown up in his game yet. Lawlar is the more mature hitter and better runner, but is also five months older than Mayer. Yada yada yada. Having no clear cut first overall pick and both top pitchers devolving into "middle rotation at best" prospects would be the most Pirates thing ever if it wasn't for yesterday's events.
why go through the rigmarole of analyzing the situation when it can be summed up like this:
they're gonna **** this up

Don't overthink this. Take the best player available this year, and the best player available next year, and every year after that

Pirates on national TV. Chad Kuhl trying to maximize his TV time by throwing 54 pitches in 2+ innings right now

Young Hayes back tomorrow.

Miguel Yajure has "right arm tightness" which one source says forearm, another says elbow. He had TJ back in 2017, so it's not looking good.

Honestly, old hayes might be a more useful bat than half the current active roster. But for practical purposes, the return of hayes is good for two things: one, it gives the kangaroo a reason to watch the game. two, the lineup will suck a bit less.

Polanco seems to have regressed this year. Batting .215.

Good to see Hayes back.

Has anyone tried to buy single game tickets for a game yet? THis is no doubt a first rate organization (just look at the on field product and payroll) so it is a real shocker that buying tickets this year is a miserable experience.

There are some bullpen arms with tremendous numbers right now.

Stratton, Holmes, bednar, richrod, Howard, Crick, and even Shreve all have solid stats at the moment.

Interesting to see if they can extract trade value out of anyone else besides richrod.

I'll be at the Bucco game tomorrow. Home plate club... I wish I knew enough about either team to heckle. All I know is Marte is a Marlin.

He was terrible last year, you can probably trace it back to his kamikaze slide back in 2019 that separated his shoulder.

The Pirates made national news again.

Great start for the Bucs against the Dodgers as Hayes homers in the first.

Oh, wait...
