This song is an elementary school memory trip. It's too early in the morning for Here Comes the Hotstepper but that's what Youtube Music chose for me so I'm going to roll with it.

What was the Billboard Hot 100 #1 song when you started elementary school? (Take that to mean the final full week of September of that year; Billboard weeks end on Saturdays, so that should help you search.)
For me, that would be the chart week of September 29, 1979.
I suppose we could do that for when everyone graduated, too. So call it the last full week of June of your senior year.
For me, that would be the chart week of June 29, 1991.
I am bored.

Which elementary schools start at the end of September?
Anyway, for me it doesn't matter, because

I don't have to look up mine because they're the same as tif's. Or would be, I should say.

Last of June 1983:
1980's pop music was horrible. Those cheesy sounding synths.

I thought I started school in September, so instead of trying to remember which specific week I just suggested using the last week of the month. If we go back to August, it doesn't change for me (and I guess Gaucho haha). It's still My Sharona. Wooo.

@tifosi77, what is it costing Amazon to air commercials with the Stones recording of "Paint it Black?"
Also for the sappy rendition of "In My Life" with women too old to have been Beatles fans.

Stones: Enormous $$. Because they're not just using the recording, they're remixing it and creating their own proprietary version. (I got to do a thing like that with Steve Miller "Fly Like An Eagle" for USPS a long time ago). I wouldn't be surprised if it was over $2 million, plus all the costs of making the custom mix with the Stones' master. And I believe they're using it in multiple different spots, so that carries added expense as well. Not cheap.
The Beatles thing is just the publishing rights (I'm guessing high six-figures), and then paying a session band to do a simple re-record. Not cheap either, but nowhere the outlay of the Stones ads.

All of that presumes standard commercial terms. If there's some special arrangements in play behind the scenes where they're doing a concert film and the licensing for this other advertising is covered in that deal, or something like that, all bets are off at guessing money.

I’d mos def enjoy this.I'll check it out. I listened to another Joni tribute album yesterday ... title escapes me now but it features Elvis Costello, Björk, kd Lang, Emmylou Harris, Sufjan Stevens, among others. Good stuff. Elvis is trying too hard, tho.
