I use the pin as a backboard way more than I'm comfortable actually admitting.
If they ever make us start taking pins out again i might be screwed.

this. our last round we were briefly behind a foursome that must've thought they were playing Augusta. by far the slowest people I've ever played behind. after they teed off on the fifth we decided to blow by them. when we came out of 6 on our way to 7 we noticed that they were still on their second shots in the fairway of 5. we took our time on 6 including time for me to stand there and try to breathe when my back tweaked.I am a pin in guy, unless a we are playing with caddies. Pace of play is more important than whatever plus side there may be to removing it. Also removes the problem of people just tossing the flagstick onto the green.

im lazy and am very skeptical that pulling the pin actually helps or hurts a crappy putter such as myself. so pin in.

After 20+ hours over 2 days at the golf course, here's the fun report from the qualifier at Columbus...
The number looked like it was going to be -6 but the problem was that there were 14 guys at -5 and there weren't many left on the course to finish and we just needed 1 to get to -6 to establish the number. I was following Fowler for his last 5 holes and after banging in a 30-footer for birdie to start the day, I figured he was going to be at least in the playoff. But then he underread a 15-footer for birdie on 15 and hit the most tentative putt I've seen a pro hit on a 15-footer for eagle at 16. So now with 2 holes left, he needs 1 more birdie to get in the playoff (Vegas had posted -6 at the other course to set the number officially). He hits a great shot into 17 to a tough pin just above a tier but pushed the birdie putt. Then on 18, he drove it right and had to go over a tall grove of trees on his approach. It ended up flying the green and his pitch from the rough stopped a roll short from glory. Pierceson Coody, a player on the Texas Longhorns golf team was playing with Fowler and he stuffed one on 18 to make birdie to get into the playoff. Now, here's where it gets a little silly. There were 16 qualifiers and 2 alternates from this site and because of the strength of field, the 2 alternates almost always get into the Open and the #1 alternate is just about a lock. So we have a 5 for 4 playoff to qualify which took 2 holes to complete so that's 1 alternate. But we then had a 9 for 1 alternate playoff to decide that 2nd alternate. It would have been 12 for 1 but 3 of the guys that posted -5 last night decided to go home (or go to Congaree for this week's PGA Tour stop). They didn't send off all 9 at once, they did it in 2 groups and in the 2nd group, Ben Taylor holed out from the fairway to win the playoff. I didn't see it but that's a hell of a way to potentially get into the Open.

Respect. Because that's exactly what would happen.“He didn’t want to do it, and I totally understand his situation. There is a lot going on in his world right now and there’s also a part of Tiger that doesn’t want to become this, I don’t want to, for lack of a better word, a sideshow at an event where we should be concentrating on what’s happening.”

Omar Uresti playing in this is a good one too. This dude made a bunch of Tour starts then transitioned into "PGA Pro" at a golf club and qualified into the PGA by obliterating all of the PGA pros

ALERT:
Chesson Hadley has a four shot lead in the clubhouse. Chesson Hadley's only win on tour (gulp) was the 2014 Puerto Rico Open.
Viktor Hovland was the first to break the Puerto Rico curse when he won in December, although interestingly it was at another Tour event that is not on the U.S. mainland (Mayakoba in Mexico).

Garrick Higgo, regardless of whether or not he wins this week, is a phenomenal story.
Hell, a Higgo vs. Hadley playoff has something for everyone.

Man, I really feel bad for Hadley. That was a hideous choke job. What a win for Higgo though. Would have loved to have seen BVP pull it out.
