Tomlin’s biggest negative as a HC is his inability to hire good assistants and his reluctance to fire assistants when they’re obviously duds.

You don’t let Butler or Fictner stick around 3 years after their expiration dates. You don’t promote from within on every OC/DC hire over the past 5 years without even entertaining external candidates.

The team hasn’t had any new ideas or new blood in a long time. Outside of Arians (which was a weird situation) nobody on his staff gets poached by other NFL teams. That tells you a lot.

If Tomlin is going to be the “CEO” style coach he needs to be a lot better at hiring a staff. What’s he hanging his hat on if he can’t get that right? In-game management? Offensive or defensive schemes? Motivational/leadership guy? What’s he bringing to the table? Look at some of the other coaches who are having success and you can quickly point to the specific side of the ball that they are Elite in or gives their team an advantage.

JuJu’s recent quote about learning more about offensive schemes/game plans over the past few months in KC than he learned over the previous 5 years in Pittsburgh is undoubtedly true.

There's so much wrong with the Steelers team, I don't think they recover with Tomlin at the helm. That's about all I can say, and The U nailed it.

Harris is bad
His vision is really bad. He cuts when he should go wide. He goes wide when he should cut in.

Perhaps my most simple observation would be that his feet and legs don’t move fast enough. You can’t generate long runs or explosive plays when it’s like you’re running in mud. Warren isn’t exactly a speed demon but when he gets the ball (in comparison to Najee) he looks like he’s running a 4.1

Harris was a luxury pick when the Steelers didn't have the luxury to do so, and I'm tired of people in the media and Steelers defending that. He was a late round Barkley, and that's not being real fair to Barkley, but the Giants had more pressing needs then too.

The Giants Packers telecast showed highlights of Barkley from last season, bouncing off linemen and stutterstepping and losing yards. Then they showed him this season and today's game specifically finding holes and playing well. Hopefully, he'll figure it out, but it's still a wasted pick.

The question is “one of the most overrated coaches of all time.”
The hyperbolic nature of the question makes it an easy no.
People talk about him like he's a future hall of famer, so yes he's one of the most overrated coaches of all time.
I'm comfortable calling him one of the most overrated of all time.

He owes his entire career and fortune to ben

And even with that he wasted the back half of Ben's career because he can't coach. In game adjustments, clock management, competent challenges, etc etc. Incapable.

Except I think his in-game isn't that sharp either. Clock management, challenges, risk/reward (4th down conversion attempts, kicking FGs when down by 20, etc.)

He does the 'leader of men' part well, but not much else. He's notoriously bad with the media as well, but the friendly media have morphed that into a character for him.

3 playoff wins since the last SB. One against Miami, one required an all time Bengals collapse, and the last was a close game against the Chiefs that we lucked out on a call. Ben carried his ass

You ever have a bad boss? What made him/her bad compared to others? Did your or your team’s performance suffer because of that person? Did a leadership change change those things?

I still can’t believe they couldn’t get any further having prime Ben, AB and Bell

Tomlin is that one dude everyone has at work that does little and mostly below average work, but can make a mean PowerPoint and pulls work out of his ass on occasion that intrigues a random higher up that over promotes him. We all know that guy. That guy is Tomlin.

Ok. Someone who can manage a football game is higher priority than leader of men. Better?

While Bush does indeed suck, that's not really a great example of him sucking. He can't see Allen as he's coming around the rush, and the entire design of that blitz is to force Allen to his left (into Bush) (hehehe). Allen steps forward into the rush, which gets him below Bush's expected contact point. If he cuts the corner closer, he leaves an outlet to the left for Allen.

That's way more great play by exceptional athlete with uncanny pocket presence than Bush doing anything wrong.

This is in no way a defense of Bush the player...that's just not a great clip to use to 'prove' that he blows IMO.

it's the old Bud Dupree rush right around him - Bush took a good angle, but he can't still be flying in at top speed when you get to the pocket
