Wow that's low end. I couldn't even imagine that type of relationship with a boss

The look on the HR rep shot to my boss when I produced receipts was like, "Why am I only finding out this information now?"
I could throw a dozen more instances of what awful managers I had there, but I just wanted to give something concrete to Mork in the hopes he finds it useful for his situation. I speak from experience and know what it feels like to carry that baggage around.

So had a conversation with my boss today. All told - it's fine. He apologized because he didn't intend for it to sound as serious as it came across - and it came from marketing partners who have projects delay because it wasn't done correctly.
He knows that I have little control on things and was super receptive. Told me my PMD would be positive and I was doing a great job, and to just take it as empty advice because it was given as empty advice. He at least knew I was upset by it yesterday and we talked it out.

That's one thing I'm very comfortable with when it comes to people who manage me. I'm not one to fester on stuff, I'll speak on it rather quickly because I just want to get back to doing my job, and not worry about anything else.Okay, that's excellent. Good to hear.
Fortunately, my current boss doesn't mind those conversations.

I'm part of a team of 4-6 (depending on the year) that goes to a particular conference every year. In years past, I've handled all my own travel and hotel accommodations and it usually works out pretty well for me. I hate having to rely on someone else to plan stuff for me.
The team, when I started here, was all a bunch of mid/late 20 somethings and we'd go out every night, get sh*tfaced, wake up the next morning, go to the conference, rinse and repeat. Now we're getting older, most of us have kids, we just want a place we can chill after the conference is over, have a beer or two, and hang out. So, this year we decided to give a go at renting a nice big house for us all to stay at while we're at the show. Saves us a couple thousand on accommodations.
The place has a private bedroom and bathroom for each person, nice big kitchen, outdoor area, and a big common space to relax and chat. We'll see how it goes. Knowing the mix of people that are going, the success is all going to hinge on one guy. If he can keep it together, it'll be successful. If not, the trip is going to suck.

Just got word today that I'm the finalist for a role at a different part of the Company, and the formal offer should be coming through before the end of the week.
My business unit has been in a terminal death spiral for most of 2023 - we were gutted during the Great Cull, and there are now only five employees working solely for the BU - down from around 150 - and the rest of us support other businesses. (Honestly, it's only because my boss already supported other units that I was spared) But the writing has been on the wall for a while, so with my boss's knowledge and support I've been prospecting... she actually even set up a job alert for me on her paid industry-only career site account to help me find something.
Started the process for this new role back in the first week of September, and between this that and the other it has taken until now to work through. Remember the day I had epic poisoning last month? Yeah, I was supposed to have an in-person interview that day with the new group's boss attorney. I have never postponed an interview with only 3 hrs notice before (or at all, really) so I honestly thought that was my candidacy done.
5 rounds of interviews, including meeting the same three attorneys twice. Do not recommend.
Anyway, this being a gargantuan organization, I probably can't officially make the switch until next month. But it's game on.

Because of the timing of my switch, I technically won't be eligible for a merit increase in 2024. So they proactively wrote one into my offer; even though it's a lateral move, I'm getting a small (but very welcome) raise.

I am sputtering on empty as we head down the stretch. I'm off for the week of Christmas, but I'll take a few days on either end of the holiday to pad it out. My boss is out Thursday until January, so I'll be just farting around until I'm out...zzzz

I have realized I am out of steam for the year. only 5 working days left in it, but its going to be a struggle to the end. Then I am off for 10 days, work for 2, then off for 30. I guess I gotta look at it that way...I am sputtering on empty as we head down the stretch. I'm off for the week of Christmas, but I'll take a few days on either end of the holiday to pad it out. I didn't get my usual chunk of days off at the end of the year since I just swapped jobs.
Though we have Christmas eve and Christmas day off as company holidays so with the way those fall we are off 12/25 and 12/26, work two days, then we are off Fri (new years eve observed), then off 1/1 for New Years Day. So only two actual work days the week of christmas which will be a whole bunch of nothing anyways.

This is the only place I've worked in the entertainment industry (where I've spent my entire adult professional life) that does not have the week between Christmas and NYE off as a company shutdown.

I sometimes feel like I'm the most expensive babysitter in the world at my new job trying to keep the peace between people. Holy ****.

I thought the whole point of working remotely would be to minimize coworker relationships
