Got a call from a buddy today (new manager) hiring his backfill PM job. My bread and butter and a high viz job, albeit a lateral. Definitely more work but I think it'd be a nice change. I'm going to give it a long thought. The lateral comes with a $5k one time bonus too which isn't too bad.

Today got a meeting invite from senior leadership about a re-org with 5-6 participants in the meeting. At a startup company. With my wife not having work for over a month.

Talk about nerves before the meeting.
Good luck!
I read too much into it. Although I’m still not happy about the outcome. Possible larger workload

I have 1100 "Perk points" to use at work, and one of the problems I have is that there are 6 billion items available to redeem, but the filtering is a little clunky, and pages load slow. I think my points are something like a $200 value based on some of the items I'm seeing.

Those things are the equivalent of a Dave and Buster's prize room. Congrats on your Pen!

At my old job those perk points we could at least use for Gift cards. I would turn those into Amazon gift cards all the time.

Normally I'd agree, but this one seems decent. I can get a Chromebook that sells for $250 on Amazon right now. I just have no idea what I want.

also I don't want to hear any "prosilver" bs. I'd buy a time machine if I wanted to use a UI from the early 00s

Well, I'm going to make a post about it - but I just found out this place is going to cost $687 to renew for the year from Bluehost. If they don't bring that price down. I'm not shouldering the load...

How much of an increase is that? Regardless, I'd contribute something to keep this place alive.

Yeah, iirc a lot of us here were Greens over at LGP; I think I even asked Shaf about it shortly after I moved here, if there was going to an option to donate for the upkeep of the site. I'd be happy to throw some shekels at the cause.

I'm legit thinking of buying like two Airtag 4-packs and just selling them on eBay for the cash, since I cannot find anything that I actually need or want. Even after the fees, I'm probably netting $150.

I'm currently in an emotional intelligence course that my company asked me (and most anyone is any kind of leadership role) to do. I'm curious as to how these companies stay in business that run these courses....

There are 30 people here. I have no idea how much it costs for me to be a part of this thing, but literally the whole point of this class is essentially: read the room, try not to be a jackass all the time, and understand that other people are different than you.

Do you have the slightest idea of how rare those qualities are?

what’s funny is the people that would benefit from those classes wouldn’t either pay attention or would actively disagree with what’s being taught

Absolutely feel like I'm in the doghouse today at work. My boss gave me feedback yesterday that I needed to be more "proactive" on when projects are going south. I asked for an example and he couldn't give me one, and he also said he'd be writing it in my PMD.

I came away from the call pretty frustrated given all that's been going on here and what's expected of me. If you're willing to offer advice, but not provide me context on where that issue happened so I can learn from it, I effectively learned nothing. It wasn't really helpful leadership.

Anyways, later that day, a project hit my desk that had already been decided prior to me seeing it, and I hit them with a "I'm raising my proactive hand on this one, I could be more proactive if I'm included in decisions that directly impact my team." Crickets since.

That's frankly bulls**t. I suggest you document the fact that concrete examples of this performance deficiency were not provided before you sign anything that reflects that feedback.

Example from when I was at PlayStation: At one point I was rebuked by our supervising attorney for giving feedback on a piece of marketing that contradicted recent guidance she had given my team. She said "I updated the group with this on Monday" and I said "What update?" Turned out the attorney had an email group for my marketing clearance team and, I s**t you not, 8 months into my tenure she had not yet added me. So when she sent out this new guidance she referenced, literally everyone on my team except me received the update.

Flash forward a few months, I was put on a PIP. At the meeting with HR, this incident was included as one of my performance deficiencies. There were five total areas cited, and I was able to refute three of them in the meeting with HR with emails showing it was in fact my supervisors t'were the s**tbags (including the incident above). The meeting was delayed a day while my manager found one other item to replace the three non-items with.

Unfortunately I let things take a really bad turn for myself outside of the workplace while all of this was going on. Don't let s**tbaggery by your manager keep you down.
