Israel values life? Hmmm.
As dumb as that tweet is, if I was an LGBT person, I would much rather live in Israel than any other country in the M.E. Setting aside the Israeli/Palestine stuff, Israel is about the only country in the Middle East a gay person can live without fear of imminent bodily harm.

Shaf thinks trans people are mentally unstable and need therapy (and whatever else) to deal with their totally in their own head problem and he wants to tout a country as being welcoming to that community.

Come on shaf. Pick a different defense. There are definitely others I would be willing to debate.

There's a periodical that publishes a 'gay travel index' and ranks countries by how LGBTQ-friendly they are. Israel actually outranks the US, mostly because the US ranking has to include places like Alabama and Utah and so our score in aggregate is lower than if it broke the rankings out by 'California' and 'Washington (state)' for example.

As a parent, I'm very much in favor of the rest of the world saying "I don't care who started, but I'm going to end it."

And shaf's right that Israel is the most tolerant of its neighbors, and if I had to pick a place to be dropped in the ME that'd be it. That doesn't give them a free pass though.

Shaf's point is akin to saying that Israel is the tallest hobbit.

This is super. Very serious lefty MSM shows inviting former Trumpers on to let them not apologize to the country and whitewash their involvement with virtually no pushback from the super serious guy.

Mehdi Hasan is usually ok, but whats the point of this. Nobody should be given the opportunity to whitewash themselves unless their opening statement is “I’m sorry”. Which isn’t the case here. And because she won’t vote for him in ‘24, nothing from 16-20 matters.

Accountability is a myth.

eh. it just feels weird that there's people who think Israel isn't doing anything wrong here but the Islamic countries are at fault. Both can be bad guys in this. The Arabic countries being intolerant is a problem, yes, but that doesn't excuse Israel for being shitty too

in the context of Israel vs Palestine, everyone sucks. It doesn't seem like there's one thing that one side is doing that is significantly worse than the other. They're both killing, abusing, mistreating the others without prejudice

Future Spoiler: She will vote for him again given the chance.

There's no taking anything at face value, and just have to believe that they're spinning whatever they want any time they open their mouths.

I honestly don't know how you can look at this history and not see the Palestinian civilians as the perpetual victims in this saga. Israel is obviously in a complicated position, but it doesn't help itself by electing radical leaders like Netanyahu.
"When I look back at the chain of events I think we made a mistake," one Israeli official who had worked in Gaza in the 1980s said in a 2009 interview with the Wall Street Journal's Andrew Higgins. "But at the time nobody thought about the possible results."

Higgins's article is worth reading in full. He goes on to outline the type of assistance the Israelis initially gave Yassin, whom the PLO at one time deemed a "collaborator," and Gaza's other Islamists:

Israel's military-led administration in Gaza looked favorably on the paraplegic cleric, who set up a wide network of schools, clinics, a library and kindergartens. Sheikh Yassin formed the Islamist group Mujama al-Islamiya, which was officially recognized by Israel as a charity and then, in 1979, as an association. Israel also endorsed the establishment of the Islamic University of Gaza, which it now regards as a hotbed of militancy. The university was one of the first targets hit by Israeli warplanes in the [2008-9 Operation Cast Lead].
Yassin's Mujama would become Hamas, which, it can be argued, was Israel's Taliban: an Islamist group whose antecedents had been laid down by the West in a battle against a leftist enemy. Israel jailed Yassin in 1984 on a 12-year sentence after the discovery of hidden arms caches, but he was released a year later. The Israelis must have been more worried about other enemies.

I think everyone agrees Hamas is not the good guy here. I agree that the Palestinian civilians are clearly the victims in this situation.

You want a packed court? This is how you get it...
A matter all the judges testified to as settled law and then turn around and rule in favor of draconian limits to make it near impossible to exercise that settled right.
It'll be amazing to see the SCOTUS rule against heavy-handed gun laws while at the same time supporting them in abortion cases.

Umm, the battle of Khaybar where the Muslims attacked and after prevailing allowed the Jewish tribe to stay as long they gave up half their property? I mean it may not be "death to Jews" but it's not simply "don't tread on me"
