The optics of them paving over that are gonna be something lol

I get why they did it there - that's the 2-block stretch of 16th St where they cleared out protesters. But I wonder if they considered doing it in the pedestrian plaza that is PA Ave between the White House and Lafayette Square. That's been closed off to vehicular traffic since the early 80s, so I'm wondering if that bit is actually under jurisdictional control of the Secret Service or something.

I don't know about the logistics of keeping it but it would be kind of cool if they left it tbh

Lol. They pushed a guy they didn't have to push, causing him to split his head open. Rather than helping him, they stepped over top of his body, and finally they lied about it in their statement. But yeah, show that support.

And that's not actually what got her reassigned.
She was putting out that picture and claiming there was a double standard between white country people leaving trash in the parking lot and looters.

Meh. I get it but my dad also taught me to always say yes sir and no sir to a police officer and spread both of my hands on the steering wheel when the officer gets to my window.MWB wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 1:17 pm This may have already been posted, so apologize if so. Just thought it was well said.
Also, along the same lines of what he says... was listening to an interview with CC Sabathia. He has a son just about to get his license, and he talked about the first lesson was how to interact with police if you’re ever stopped... don’t make side to movements, don’t raise your voice at all, pay close attention to directions. He wasn’t whining about it, just very matter of fact. And said if things don’t change, his son will have the same conversation with his kids. That’s never a conversation I thought to have with my daughters.

And you're white.
Black people can do all of that and still be treated like ****.
Completely missing the point.

You may have missed it since it was hidden in the first 3 words of my post.

But it was preceded with "meh" and followed with "but." So, you can see where that response would come from.

I took the "meh" and "but" statement as dismissive of his statement.

If you have to add a qualifier when you say "I get it" then I'm not really sure you do.

KC, if you feel threatened by police when you’re stopped and feel a need to have the conversation with your kids, that also sucks. For white people, it’s probably based more on personal or familial history with police. For a lot of black people, it seems to be just the way it is, which is why he said it was the first thing he had to talk to his son about when teaching driving.

I do not feel threatened, but I think it is wise to teach your kids to respect police officers and behave in such a way to make them feel safe since their job is a dangerous one. I was taught that. I will teach that. Its "in addition to" the CC thing, not in lieu of.

That more than just black people should teach their kids how to interact with police officers. However I have been informed that I am incorrect.

Well, I think you're missing the point here. You were taught how to interact with police officers. "Yes Sir" and "No Sir", hands on the steering wheel. I was taught similarly, but when I was taught that, it was with the understanding that if I did those things, everything would work out for me and I have no reason to fear what a cop might do. Black kids are likely taught "yes sir" and "no sir", but with the caveat that even if they do that, there's a likely chance that they will not come out of the situation okay. It's not going to work out for them. So while, yes... all parents teach kids how to interact with police officers, it's completely different for black people in this country.King Colby wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 4:09 pmThat more than just black people should teach their kids how to interact with police officers. This is going to come across as a judgement of KC, but it’s really not meant that way. This is part of the problem with these discussions, IMO. I was trying to make the point that this black guy feels the need to tell his kids the most important part of learning to drive is how you interact with cops, and that was something that made me think. The response of, I was taught to respect officers too, is... I’m not sure what. Who cares? And maybe my story was pointless too, so I should just shut up. I guess I don’t understand the need for people, and I’m sure I do it too, to draw a comparison to some of these things.
