In the four days this week we've had all three school scenarios:

Tuesday, not that much snow but it hit at like 6 AM and conditions were bad going to school. Why the eff didn't they delay?
Thursday, freaking frigid, they delayed 2 hours but it was as cold at 9:30 AM as it had been at 7:30 AM. Delay made no difference. Poop or get off the pot.
Today, 2" overnight, virtual day. Haven't been out but can't imagine conditions are worse than they were Tuesday when they didn't do anything.

In these days when virtual is possible, I wish they'd stop with the delays. Have school in person or don't.

All that said, I wouldn't want the job of deciding what to do. No matter what you do people are going to be pissed because they either don't think it's safe or you've effed with their work schedule. So, do what you think is right and that's what we're going with.

PPS was only in school on Wednesday and each day was a well deserved cancellation. Tuesday: morning commute was horrendous. Only issue was they called it too late and some busses were already attempting to get kids. Thursday: negative windchill all morning. With a large majority of city school kids walking or riding a bus, that’s an easy cancellation. Can’t have them out in that. Today (remote): morning commute was bad again and continuing throughout the morning. Maybe not as bad as predicted but it doesn’t take much and is it really worth the risk to have busses out there on some of these city streets that go untouched?

That’s what drives schools today. Cancel early to avoid any unnecessary situations. Especially now that most can do flexible instruction.

And if you drive 5mph in this stuff just stay home. The roads are snow covered. But there is nothing that necessitates 5mph on a 45mph road. I'll give you 20-25. But not 5

Yeah, either send them or don't, because you can do online. Delays just screw everything up. Err on the side of caution if you need to do something and have it virtual.

Eh. My wife hates remote days because the learning that happens just isn’t as high of quality as in person. She prefers a delay for sure, even though she has to be in at the same time regardless.

They should just go back to before and give kids snow days.

I prefer not driving through this bullshit, and even more prefer not having my kid on a bus in this bullshit on the way home, so a delay during a snowstorm... no.

They get snow days.

I have zero issues with remote learning in place of a snow day. It'll prevent them from adding days onto the end of the year, and the kids aren't just sitting around all day playing video games. We get pure snow days up until a certain limit, and then they change to remote learning days.

Well yeah, if it will still be storming 2 hours later, obviously a delay makes little sense.

We have had 2 remote learning days so far this year. I think a lot of schools in the area are on one again today. The call we got from the superintendent said “we’re going to have a good old fashioned snow day… get out and enjoy the snow!”

Part of me wants to go out and snowblow right now, but I know it’ll flurry enough to force to shovel again tomorrow.

I shoveled around 1:00 and the remaining snow did not accumulate at all (I do not use any other products)

Wonder how much it would cost to install a heated driveway?

@shafnutz05, what total accum of snow do we have since last night? I can't find that anywhere. I recently found out that I'm responsible for any accum less than 4" after I explicitly asked the prop management company if I would be responsible for any outdoor maintenance and they said "no." That same prop management company quoted the HOA which they never gave me a copy of. The worst thing for me to do is shovel show with my heart condition.

I went out at 3 thinking it was over.

I was wrong. All my work undone.

Great storm... Has been snowing all day, probably got close to 4" on the ground. Can't remember the last time we had snow on top of snow.

The NWS said that a lot of the upslope snows at the base of the Alleghenies would be this evening as the west wind picks up out there.
