I have an 2006 50" Panasonic plasma that was 1600 at Costco and its still going strong in my basement. I love that TV despite it weighing a ton.Every year I say I'm going to buy a flat screen TV. I bought a 42 inch one in 2007 from Circuit City for 1,400.
I'm now dedicated using that until it dies because I laugh every year when I see the prices compared to what I paid at the time.
I'm still rocking my 2008 Samsung 61" HL61A750 rear projection led dlp. It's still a beast and I love the picture, I don't feel right getting a new TV while this is still going strong. I had that very same HDTV (professionally calibrated, too). Loved it, but wanted something that was bigger and could handle the amount of light that my living room gets, so I replaced it with a Samsung 65" UN65H7150 that I absolutely love. If not for the light issue, and the fact that I got a great deal on the 65", I'd still have it.
