You know what bugs me?

When companies don't give you any contact information regarding the person/people who are evaluating your application/resume.
Do you have the HR contact?

As someone currently interviewing, it would be inappropriate for a candidate to contact me. Any communication has to go through HR.

Every year, there are a set number of slots open for promotions in our division. I'm apparently up for this year. Assuming it goes through, this will effectively be my fourth promotion [across two companies] in eight years.

This would likely be my final 'promotion', as it's the top of the technical ladder, and I have zero interest in ever moving to the managerial side of the house.
Not even in a planning role? Not necessarily supervising employees but working on enterprise development.

I'm very fortunate that in my 'organization' I can promote all the way to the top without ever supervising, but it does mean moving away from working 'on the gear' and more towards doing plans and policy.

I had three interviews for an internal position.

It's for one of the companies that serves as a sister company to the one I currently work at.

The interviews were all in person. I had a fourth on the phone with HR. The first three were good. But HR said they recommended that I not be hired bc I had moved around for most of the time I have been working. But that's very weird bc I was in my 20s and I don't really see what that would have to do with this job. I had explained the reason to the HR manager and my would be boss. My would be boss said she had looked at my resume but nothing stuck out to her. During our interviews she had gone through my resume and my moving had come up but no one seemed concerned.

My would be boss thought it was an odd reason for the hiring manager to not recommend me saying she thought it would be a slam dunk and she was extremely disappointed (which went straight to my head 8-) ).

So my would be manager asked me if I could meet with the HR person to explain my moving.
But the HR person, who works a couple of floors away did not want to meet.
I think my would be boss found that odd as well.

I just find the whole thing odd and during the interview yesterday and after I got off the phone with the HR person I felt like the person was not impressed. It's like my answers were not good enough for them.

Idk if anyone here knows someone this has happened to. Insight?

The only reason that makes sense is that the job needs someone long term. My would be boss said they were looking for people to take over once people were aged out or since the company is growing I have the option of working in different places in the US.

But for either of those they would prefer someone who will be there long term.

Actually, I stand corrected - I can still move into a supervisor role before switching tracks to management. I'm in the 'Technology Engineering' branch of IS, and each branch basically has the same structure - level 1, level 2, level 3, principal - which is the tech lead, and the role I'd be promoted into, and supervisor. Our team already has a supervisor, and I have little interest in switching to another branch in order to pursue that position.

That said, I am 100% okay with how things are structured here, and the fact that I couldn't move up much further isn't a negative. I'm already near the top of the food chain on the technology side. I can move laterally into other groups, but I've got it good where I am.

How did you submit your resume? Online?

I'll concede NO contact info is weird.

Yeah, online. I found the position on Linkedin and it took me to their page, but nothing else was listed aside from the job description and location.

The next few weeks at work will literally be enough to drive me over the edge. I already manage most of the customer service, tech support and repairs, oversea the manufacturing, build our products and keep parts stocked, manage our Verizon accounts, but now with our office assistant on vacation I'll be taking sales calls, providing price quotes, ordering parts, shipping product, etc. I am literally going to be running a company damn near single handedly. I forsee gallons of Buffalo Trace being required after work. Also I'm requesting an evaluation after she gets back since it's been a year since my last pay raise.

I ended up meeting with six people yesterday, and only one of them gave me a business card. The email addys are simple enough to reverse engineer, but still. Two of the people weren't on the schedule, so I can't even bodge an email to them because I didn't even get their last names.

Also, they were SUPER strict about adhering to the time limits. In every instance, I was either in the middle of an answer or they were in the middle of a question when the next person showed up and boom, end of discussion, it was nice meeting you, good luck, etc.

Throw in a coupon for a Sous Vide machine, include some instructions, recipes and pictures of finished product and they will probably get you an offer packet by day's end.

Good luck. :thumb:

I've feared doing that with college papers. I don't think I ever have, but who knows if they were ever read that closely.

This is how we interview. Candidates meet with a senior, then a team lead, then a manager, then a director. It's tough to get on the director's calendars, so times have to stay on track. When someone higher on the food chain comes into your session, you get up and leave.

We run a tight ship. No one gets overtime during an interview. Gotta keep the process moving in an all day interview.

Gave notice today. Went well. He wants to know if I can work remotely if they don't find a replacement any time soon.

Sent HR an email (per their instruction) of my notice, and like 30 seconds later I got a calendar invite for my exit interview. lol

I love the idea of an exit interview, if the information gathered is actually used or taken seriously. When I gave notice to my previous employer, I actively reached out to the group that handled exit interviews. They ignored my e-mail and phone calls, and ultimately never bothered with it.

Exit interviews are primarly there to have NDAs signed and return proprietary property.
