I don't want Butker to get fired/cut/whatever. But I would like to see him go all Blair Walsh and start shanking them and hooking them to cost the Chiefs a few games. Just for the comedic value that would be involved.

Agreed. People know who he is now which had to factor in his decision to deliver that speech.

Over the past five years I’ve developed a pretty irrational pet peeve about down and distance measurements. So important yet so arbitrary
NFL
I kind of like it when the two old chubby dudes jog out with the chains. Besides, the problem wasn't the chains, it's the arbitrary ball spotting and this won't do anything to fix it. It'll speed up the game a bit though.

Yeah...this. The chains did nothing but build 'suspense' back in the day, but with the first down line on your TV screen you know before they take one step on the field whether it's short or not. Can't wait for the first coach/fan base meltdown after a close spot goes against them and there's no 'on the field' measurement.I kind of like it when the two old chubby dudes jog out with the chains. Spotting the ball will still be an issue, but to be fair it's sometimes even an issue with replay.

The same technology should be used for touchdowns too. So many questions over whether the ball passed the plane or not.

it’s not “one problem”. Chain gangs are a smaller problem, yeah, but still a problem (the “index card” game)
that said, I agree that the much more pressing issue is spotting. I know it’s inherently difficult because you have to match the location of the ball to when the runner is deemed down/to have had their forward momentum stopped, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible
if I was head of the NFL’s research department I’d try to figure out a way to put sensors in the ball and have that map to camera playback. So in a review a ref can determine when a runner is deemed down and then pinpoint the location of the ball at that point (or, if it’s a matter of crossing a plane, if the ball crossed the plane before the runner was down)
I’m sure the “sensor” bit is very complex too though

The overwhelming emphasis on passing has led to this absurd string of contracts for QBs and WRs. Good for Trevor

QBs these days get paid just for existing.

I mean bringing up the Mahomes deal kind of ruins the convo because he SHOULD be the highest paid QB. His contract is very team friendly
Daniel Jones has the fifth highest cap hit this next season. That’s the kind of deal that critics of his TLaw deal think it could be
