Finally got around to The Many Saints of Newark. Shut it off an hour in. What a piece of ****.

Wife and I watched Leave the World Behind the other night.
The premise is fairly cool, but the setup is extremely clumsy and disjointed, and the 'payoff' is ridiculously bad. The characters are all pretty much bland representations of common archetypes.

The dialogue was bad, or maybe it was just the deliveries. Mahershala Ali was very good, as was the actress playing his daughter, but my goodness were Hawke, Roberts, and their kids just awful. Again, maybe the script wasn't adapted well from the book, but some of the scenes were just cringe with how abrupt the changes in conversation happened. Almost like a line or 2 of dialogue was removed.

Sucks, because the premise seemed pretty awesome, if not a bit cliched. The 140min run time didn't do it any favors either.

AMC finally wore me down after years and years so I decide to upgrade to AMC Stubs Premier and their **** ordering system is broken and won't generate the order.

Whatever your thoughts on the movie "Hook", I bet not many of you knew it was originally conceived as a musical. Not an adaptation of the Broadway show or the Disney movie, an original movie musical. And the singing voice of Granny Wendy was none other than Julie Andrews(!).

All of that development work - songs, discarded score cues, etc - has been released this week as a 3-disc boxset, limited to 5,000 units which has already sold out.

So if anyone was looking for a last minute holiday gift for Uncle Tif here, maybe scope out eBay for the next couple days.

Dustin Hoffman's take on Captain James Hook was my favorite movie pirate until the original Pirates of the Caribbean came out. (Barbossa ftw)

And I will put the first..... 30 minutes or so of the OST up against anything John Williams has ever done for the movies.

Hook was a ton of fun. Come on, Bob Hoskins as Smee? Outstanding.

After this exchange I fired up the Hook OST, and I'm doubling down on my comment about its quality.

If movie soundtracks were a playoff bracket, Hook would be the score that no one would want to face in the first round.

There are very few performances as mind boggling as seeing Dustin Hoffman be Captain Hook.

Migration was cute. No surprises, good way to spend 90 minutes on a winter day.

Danny Devito was fun, didn't expect that.

As someone that does not like Minions stuff at all I could have done without the short at the beginning.

I rewatched the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy this week. I had seen them as they were released but I don’t think I realized how good each film is. I’m almost sad that more movies are on the way because that was about as perfect of a trilogy as you can get.
