eddysnake's Thread of Stephen King
I've been waiting for a follow up, but the suspense is killing me.I'm finished.
What did you think?

Sorry man. Wasn't my intent. I was out of town all weekend hosting a party and didn't want to type into my phone.
I'll spoiler this just in case someone stumbles upon later and decides to read the series:
Overall I really, really enjoyed the journey. There is some beautiful writing in there. And it's the kind of place I've never allowed myself to go to before, and it was not for nothing. As I was finishing the seventh and final book I was thinking "man, I really really kind of want to circle around and start over from the beginning and do it again" but then the final ending happened and that interest waned.
I'm a little annoyed that I read books 1-7 in order and then found out about The Wind Through the Keyhole later. I would have liked to have read them chronologically by narrative. I'll probably read that soon, as well as Black House and The Eyes of the Dragon. But not Insomnia.
Overall it's one of the best modern fiction experiences I've had as an adult. Thank you all for encouraging me to continue past the first book. The other worlds were worth it.

Great to hear dodint. Your thoughts share a lot of mine from twenty years ago.
Did you like Black House? I remember really liking that one. Ditto for Eyes of the Dragon, it's probably been 25 years since I read that.

I haven't read them yet. Actually never heard of them until I was reading about connections to his other work after I finished the series.

Ahh.... You are in for a treat. I remember reading it shortly after The Talisman.
As an aside, I just noticed that Peter Straub passed away in September

Wind Through the Keyhole was a pleasant read.
As mentioned I've decided to read The Talisman and Black House to fill in some of the other DT adjacent books. I'm only in the first few chapters of Talisman and it's not grabbing me at all, I feel my mind wandering while I read it. I think I'm distracted by the co-authoring because so far it doesn't read in King's voice at all so I assume the chapters I've read are Straub. Not that he's a bad writer, but it's like when you take a drink of water and accidentally grab the lemonade, you're just not expecting that particular flavor.

I too found the back and forth writing in Talisman off-putting. It didn't stick out to me as much in Black House. Neither book is among my favorites though. They're fine, but I read each once and never had the desire to go back to them.

I liked Black House a lot more than Talisman. Talisman started slow IIRC whereas Black House picked up quickly.

Read a little nugget, I think on Screen Rant, that the new Dark Tower TV series is not actually designated for Prime Video. The creator has a fat deal with Amazon, but he specifically carved out an exception for the DT series so he could have full creative control. That means it could end up streaming anywhere once it's ready. He already has relationships with Netflix and Prime, so hope it goes there. Or maybe HBO Max. If it ends up on Hulu or Apple TV I'll be pissed.

Just finished Talisman. That's a book that really could have benefitted from a 200-page diet. And it was 99% torture porn that ended exactly how you knew it would. I can't remember the last time I read a book for so long that I couldn't wait to have end.
Wolf!
I'll check out Black House in a few weeks or months or whatever but as soon as I finished Talisman I got onto Amazon and bought a lighthearted book about golf.

Just wondering where he was tbh.

Started Black House. As I was reading it I got a weird feeling, all of this seems very familiar...
Turns out Peter Straub is from Wisconsin and the setting is the part of Wisconsin I used to live in. The fictionalized names are changed only slightly and the description is spot on so I caught onto it quickly. He even mentions the town I lived in, Sparta, in passing. Pretty neat.
