We have a brand new a/c and furnace...so yearly stuff is included in what we paid for like 5 years or something at no cost. Our old furnace was easy enough to check stuff on, these new furnaces though.. I'm not even sure I'd know what I was looking at inside. Face HE stuff that I know nothing about. I'd still have our A/C checked/cleaned yearly though no matter what.
Our furnace is about 5 years old and I had it serviced in 2019. I wasn't planning on having somebody out to look at it but maybe I should because like you said, I can look in but hell if I know what I'm looking at.

Let's face it, unless I smell gas or the flames look off, I won't have anybody out to look at it. I have to admit, I love that burning dust smell when you turn on the furnace for the first time.

It's not like there's a lot to check on most units. Turn it on. Is the heat on? Normal LEDs on the board? Okay, stay warm and change your filter regularly.

Do most people have an annual inspection before turning on the heat?
Unfortunately a lot of the warranty for furnaces rely on a yearly inspection. I kept up with it for about 7 years with our new system, but haven't had anyone out in the last 3 or 4.

If that's the case, then sure, go for it. If it's not a requirement, I think you're largely just burning cash.

My normal heat start-up routine takes a little while, courtesy of boiler heat. Gotta crank up the thermostat, make sure the pilot light is working and the gas igniting. Then I gotta check the rads to make sure they don't need bled and are heating up. House gets sweltering for a little bit while everything settles in.

I had mine serviced when we moved in then skipped 5 years. Mistake. One of the drain tubes was clogged with debris, backing up into the impeller. Nearly cost me a new furnace, still cost me $650 to repair.

I'll get a yearly check-up now because of it. Just set mine up today, actually.

interesting. is it hard to clean out?
not at all. daily I pretty much just rinse it and dispose of the grounds on a daily basis. they say that moka pots are kind of like cast iron pans and not over-cleaning them helps season them essentially. I do give it a good scrub about once a week or so where I remove the gasket and filter.

@MrKennethTKangaroo

but an aluminum moka pot at home goods this weekend for 6 bucks. so far so good. running thru old grounds before i go get my espresso beans

Haha I have seen middle fingers get blurred out with more vigor than that...

That said, there's nothing more gross than a public bathtub, so this is pretty close to a plant/grow situation anyhow...provided there were no kids around...
