That was a great game last night, San Jose pushed back after the 3-0 lead and the Pens didn't break. Considering winning in San Jose is equivalent to seeing a Solar Eclipse, I thought the team played well. Really surprising.

Malkin, what else can be said? he is playing and becoming the best player in the league. Dirty goals or not, the Pens won.

The snake ate the kitten?
Watched some highlights this AM and was stoked.
It's almost impressive that 87 didn't get a point on any of the 5 goals.

No I'm nice :) good point it didn't occur to me until you mentioned it about Sid. Even KCD didn't help him

I'm not interested in getting used to either Clendening or Warkofsky.

Watched the game last night and focused on Sid in particular. Honestly, i think hes doing alot of things right. I see him going to the dirty areas alot more than we are used to. He made some great defensive plays. He did look dangerous when he had the puck.

But the main thing I noticed is a lack of burst. You watch malkin and his recent unreal goals, and his burst is there. He's beating guys one on one. He is taking advantage of the one on one opportunities that are so freaking rare today in the NHL.

Sid is not taking those opportunities. His burst isnt really there. We have rarely seen him this year beat guys when one on one like he used to. I mean think about some of his highlight level goals, burning defensemen or even splitting them with speed. Its not there anymore. Now of course, the NHL is a quagmire that is slowing down many of the stars across the league (ie Voracek, Getzlaf, all of tampa bay, etc) but there are still some chances. Is it an injury, is he getting old and losing burst, or is it just plain lack of confidence? I don't know. But to me, this is the part of his game that is lacking. And if or when we see that burst again, I think all of the issues go away

I feel like every time I've seen him try to burst this year, or get the puck around a defenseman, he gets interfered with and it gets uncalled.

Well thats true, and its evident across the league. I mean, Getzlaf and Voracek have 1 goal apiece. But interference isnt a new thing, although its getting worse.

Source of the post But interference isnt a new thing, although its getting worse.
That's my point. Before, he was able to get around because players would have to think twice about taking the penalty. Now, they do it because they know it's not going to be called.

Malkin's long legs really go a long way in his ability to just blow by people, whereas Crosby needs a little more time to build up speed. As has been noted, I'm tired of the interference anymore, too, and it's one reason I wish they'd take a serious look at making the ice bigger.

Or they could start to call the interferences again, like they did after the lockout. I would say that the playoffs in 2009 has more interference calls than a regular season game now...

Oh, I didn't mean that I'd be okay with interference if they opened up the ice. I would actually like both at the same time.

Making the rink larger won't increase goal scoring or give the players more room. IIRC the average number of goals scored in the Olympics in 2014 barely differed from the NHL average.

Comparing the olympics to the nhl is apples to eggplant. Opening up the ice would certainly make a difference with the interference, im not sure how it would affect scoring though. Im not that thrilled about increasing the focus on perimeter play.

The interference is obviously a problem, but it's hardly sufficient to explain away Crosby being 85th in scoring.
