-- Geno! Geno! Geno!

-- Get well soon Maatta. Our defense is bad enough.

-- I'll defer to those that watched it now. I only listened to the game.

True, but so was the high stick on Letang.

I assumed Maatta was just trying to help the team when he bashed Letang in the head. But then, powerplay, so, yeah.

His stick was on the ice tying up the Wild player's stick, so the Wild player's legs "gave out". It was one of the worst calls of the night, considering Plotnikov was getting hooked and tripped later in the 3rd.

It's a joy watching Geno at the height of his powers. Enjoy these next few years!
Everyone had a lot of zip for once.
Hope Maatta is okay. The NHL should really ban goalies opening up doors during play.

Geno was top notch. The guy is absolutely brilliant.

Sad to see Maatta go down, I hope he's back healthy soon.

team turned ultra conservative after Maatta went down. Looked up at the scoreboard and saw shots at 21-9, I think they ended around 27-26 or something like that

Tends to happen when one team gets 2 5-3s for over one minute each.

When did a broken stick become an automatic slashing penalty? Plotnikov's slashing penalty seemed like a joke to me. From what I remember, he had both hands on his stick and used it to get position along the boards for the puck. The other player had his stick there too, and it broke when Plotnikov put his stick down over it. 2 minute penalty because the stick "broke".

It seems like it has always been that way.

Fleury and Letang both mentioned the penalty killing as stalling the team in the 3rd.

After Maatta went down, you could tell it kind of deflated them, because the Wild weren't exactly pushing back before then.

I semi-understand the automatic call, I mean if you slashed it hard enough to snap in two, well... But I hate the basically automatic call if you slash it out of his hands. If you have a weak grip that could happen pretty easily, and boom, 2 minutes.

The problem that I have with the automatic penalty is that it's far too easy to break sticks anymore. I've seen light taps just snap these things in half.

It's tough sometimes when there's a smoking gun to not arrest someone...in an ideal world, a ref would see the slash and determine its strength. Sometimes that can be difficult to ascertain at live speed...
