Kessel trade could be bigger hearing Spaling involved and Pitt also gets Torontos 2nd round pick.

any word on salary retention? I thought there was, but there's no mention of it by anything official.

I think it's Kessel (minus 15% or like $1.25M per) and a 2nd for Kapanen, Harrington, Spaling, a 1st and another late pick...

Not a fan of this deal, which means concentrating our cap hit even more than it already is. I wonder if this year the Pens will be down to four or three defensemen.

Who cares. $6.8 million in the second half will be a steal. Pens are going to be splashing money around on the tail end of Sid, Letang, Malkin, and Kessel contracts. Not a fan of this deal, which means concentrating our cap hit even more than it already is. I wonder if this year the Pens will be down to four or three defensemen.

I believe we got two contracts back, lesser players. Young/fringe NHlers perhaps. Not sure about that. Maybe like Panik and Devane or some such...not sure...

If Spaling and the 15% retention are true, this is a pretty nice deal in terms of the next few years go. Any news on the 2 Russians that were supposedly being signed today? Add them, subtract only Spaling from the lineup, and even with losing Downie, Comeau, Martin and Lappiere we are pretty well set for the season.
Still wouldn't mind adding Comeau back in for 3rd line duty. Scratch that. I see he already signed.
We lost Martin, Comeau, Greiss, Downie, Chorney and Tikhonov to Chicago. Hope they at least sign the other Russian.
