GDT #56: Pens vs Isles

Postby Blue Canary » Mon Feb 20, 2023 9:56 pm

It’s crazy how I watch this team and I’m thinking “Crosby, Geno, letang, Rackell, Guentzel are just playing awesome”

But we still just continue to lose because everyone else is complete trash
If I’m Blueger, McGinn, Jarry, et al, I struggle to look the core in the face. The mere thought of potentially costing them a playoff berth would hold me accountable and keep me awake. But what the hell do I know.

Like it or not the guy that just extended Sid, Letang and Malkin, and signed Rakell isn't going to be selling
We don’t need to sell. Draft picks at this point with the core means little. We need a GM that will move all this dead weight and just create a good third line…which like Mikey said, can’t happen until the off-season
We aren’t going to sell but if we did….no need to acquire draft picks. Acquire young NHL players that can help next year. Bolster the bottom 6 for next year that way.

Lots of hockey left. Not fun to consistently find ways to lose but there are signs of life and the effort is there. Just gotta dig out of this

borque putting the blame where it belongs
What’s he saying?
sorry
sullivan
borque says there is zero accountabilty and the same guys will be out there on thursday likely doing the same thing

Bourque seems to be missing the fact that there's absolutely nothing available for Sullivan to plug in to make a change.

That falls on the GM.

Sullivan can be a great coach and lose the room either way.

Goalie killed them again.

The Pens record with Sullivan behind the bench, and one/both of Crosby or Malkin out of the lineup (prior to this year) suggests you're wrong with that assessment.

And you want accountability but what can Sullivan do? Only play the top 2 lines, since they're the only thing that works?

Give Geno credit. That guy talks to the media all the time now.

speaking of blueger, that **** effort against lee on the 3rd islander goal will result in nothing other than more teddy blueger
borque bemoans the lack of accountability but it seems to me it's possible that sullivan's hands are tied because of cap space perhaps?

Hextall is a video game GM.
For me, that was Rutherford. Hextall may be a fantasy hockey GM that never makes trades because he's scared he might lose them...? Ya know that guy where you can offer him Draisaitl for Nick Suzuki because you just really like Suzuki and he thinks "you're up to something"...

I'll be honest, I kicked a garbage can over in my kitchen after this one...as flustered as I've been by a regular season game in a while...

This was a wee-wee slam in the car door...

Might be a better analogy. "Well my team is really good on paper. Some day my 6th forward is going to get on a heater, he's owned in 90% of the leagues! ESPN said he'd score at least 40 points!"

Yeah, I think that's probably the better fit...like, he's hanging on to Sammy Blais because he's due and has potential...

I thought this was a big red flag at the time. I feel even more strongly about it now.

Can you imagine being in that role and not having every single possible scenario/outcome mapped out?

I forgot Danton Heinen exists... not really sure there's much hope to think he'd bring anything to the lineup that's different than what the 3rd line is currently bringing.

It's literally a Michael Scott move - except hes the GM of a hockey team and not the manager of a fictional paper company

The 2 losses to the Isles were very reminiscent of the 2021 and 2022 playoff efforts, and obviously that's not surprising because it's almost the exact same roster, including the two goalies (which is by far their biggest issue).

And to be honest, if this was his plan - no wonder he wanted to avoid writing it down.
