Didn't Coffey wear 7 on the Oilers? I think Rod Buskas had 7 when he joined the Pens.

I can’t find it, but it was confirmed that he’ll be wearing 77. Rust has his old number, so I assumed that was a given.

That’s what I assumed, but this old guy is going to do a double take when I see #77 in that uniform again. I know they skate and look completely differently, but it’s going to take a minute.

I know we’re getting off-topic, but I don’t know that hockey will ever see a defenseman skate like Coffey ever again. The closest I can think of is Scott Neidermayer. Both were just so smooth on the ice. I’m glad to have been able to watch them play growing up.

Not a dirty player. Not a sh*t stirrer. Generally stayed above the fray. Not a high character guy but seems like a high character player if that makes sense.

i would say connor mcdavid. you really had to see coffey in person. same with jagr, who imo, doesn't get enough acco;ades for the speed demon he once was. too bad there's not a database for how fast all the nhl guys are/were. or maybe there is?

I was strictly talking about defensemen, but I'm not even sure that McDavid is there with him. Maybe it's just how fluid Dr. Coffey's skating was.

Yep, I always remember Jagr as being quick, with deceptive speed for his size. Slow Jagr is a millennial thing.

Scotty Needs had one speed. It took him one step to get to it.

We don’t know how fast The Doctor could get because he gained speed with ever stride and the boards would eventually stop him. If he skated on one of those frozen rivers against the rotation of the earth, he’d eventually going back in time.

Two best skaters I can think of. As someone who had a laborious stride, seeing someone able to out skate everyone with zero effort was fascinating and infuriating.
