GDT: Pittsburgh vs. Nashville - SCF Game Six- 8:00 EDT

It's tough to give up a mid-range goal scorer like Neal...it really is...particularly for a guy who doesn't blow you away with his skill package...but he's a two-time Cup winner now and more to go...
Just heard one of the guys on hockey central @ noon give a nice summation of Hornqvist - which I hope to adequately paraphrase...
'Hornqvist is not all that good in space, in fact, he's somewhat deficient, but, with no room to maneuver, with no space, he's among the best.'
Now I'm sure @mikey, that somewhere you've already said this but I didn't see it :D
Someone here once described his game as a 'little ball of hate', and I wish I could remember who it was so I could give attribution. Because that's 100% accurate.

Hornqvist's game isn't complicated and doesn't need some long winded soliloquy to describe it. He wants it more than (now pretend I'm pointing at NHL players) you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you. And he's willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Including play with that claw that he calls a right hand.

Horny is a man's man's man
Any chance we can get this song played in the arena after a Hornqvist goal?

I didn't see this aspect of the play mentioned in this thread, but what are the odds that Sullivan challenges that Nashville goal, had the whistle not blown, for goaltender interference (Forsberg)?

Probably would lose the challenge. Daley rode him into Murray's leg.

I think that call stands independent of the call in the ice. It's really hard to tell one way or another if Forsberg initiated the contact or if Daley pushes him

Forsberg did what Nashville did all series, he stops to make contact with Murray - regardless of how little.

The officials were looking for it - and instead of focusing on the puck, they were trying to maintain order because they've dealt with the bullshit all series.

I'm not going to shed a tear for the quick whistle - Nashville brought it upon themselves.

The only thing that bugs me about the disallowed goal call is this whole 'quick whistle' trope. Was it quick in the sense that the puck was free and it wouldn't have been blown if the ref had a sightline? Yes. Was it quick in the sense that the ref lost sight of the puck and went to the whistle took quickly? No, and that's the only bit of the discussion that matters.

Oh, I didn't, either. They had nearly two full periods and four power plays (including a 5-on-3) to do something, and they didn't. I just hadn't given any thought to possible interference before I saw it mentioned elsewhere.

Agreed. Quick whistle is thrown around incorrectly an awful lot

People saying that the whistle was just an example of penguins bias is a hoot. Please, go on and describe how the ref was waiting for a point to pretend that he didn't see the puck in order to deny Nashville a goal. Really get detailed with your theory, because it makes no sense whatsoever on its surface.

Also - it was a 0-0 game for like 30 more minutes and you still couldn't score. Let's allocate the blame for the loss correctly, eh?

I lost sight of the puck during the broadcast myself until I saw a slow motion replay of it from behind Murray.

Not to mention 0/4 on PP's that included an extended 5-3.

Murray was GOAT.

I remember seeing a post recently on reddit about how to spot the refs' Pens bias. Quick whistles, point being that the Pens had been benefiting from quick whistles all playoffs.

the officiating was horrendous the entire series. last night i thought we got away with a lot of clear interference. and then there were the eleventy billion times maatta got boarded in the series that weren't called. and the punches to various faces. and blowing the whistle while we were attacking because of a freaking subban leg injury - and a fake one at that.

they had no plan. it was a lousy thing

That became all the more apparent, too, once the Pens found that next level. Preds were lucky to win game 4.

Had the Pens already used their timeout after all those icings before this?

Ok, couldn't remember if they had. Just remember thinking when they did use the timeout that the video guys could take the rest of the nite off.

Horny is a man's man's man
Love that man. When he started to lose it I definitely got a little choked up. Seeing other men cry, especially guys like Hornqvist that battled through injuries, pain, etc to get to this point, is a trigger.

Anyone who watches NHL games on a regular basis knew what was going to happen next - the refs were going to call multiple penalties on the Pens and nothing on the Preds to make up for the "quick whistle". The Preds had their chances, especially with the 1:30 5-on-3, and they didn't deliver. Sad.
