It's going to be a different team next year. Mostly on the blue line (which may not be a bad thing?). We'll see what happens, but as long as we have sid, malkin, kessel, letang, and murray, anything is possible.

let's not act like this team won't be well-rested. We get plenty of time off during the season thanks to injuries

It's not like I don't want them to 3peat. I'll be as disappointed as anyone else if they get eliminated, especially now that I sort of forget what that feels like.

Going to be some heavy overreaction from a lot of people if/when that happens.

Much like this year, if they curb stomp the Caps the rest is gravy.

Although the Caps beating the Pens, breaking through, and losing the next round anyway might kill that franchise.

Name the last time Pittsburgh was eliminated from the playoffs where fans were saying "well, I'm just happy they got there..." I'm guessing the first season the Pirates got back to the playoffs after their 20 years of terrible-ness. Pittsburgh sports fans expect their teams to do well. They overreact to most disappointing ends to the season, even if they finish right about where they should.

The 2008 loss. General feeling was they'll be back. Maybe not they'll be back the following year, but there was optimism.

The '93 loss and '96 losses are the only ones that stick out to me as terrible soul burning losses. I'm sure I was upset by the others in the moment but any fan would be.

Regardless of our roster next season, I'd be very disappointed in a first round exit. Even moreso if that loss came at the hands of the Caps.

I would add 2013 to that. That sweep blindsided me.

Sure, as an individual you may be able to come to terms with a specific season's end. As a city though, Yinzers tend not to be rational about such things.

Yeah. I guess that one doesn't resonate as much for me because I was in Afghanistan and couldn't really watch it on my terms. I got condensed versions of the games on AFN. I remember being really frustrated but my wife was diagnosed with cancer like two weeks later so, well, I got over it quick.

That's because you (very reasonably) expected them to go far.
I certainly won't have that expectation next year and very few had it this Spring.

I think it was because 2012 was also an ugly loss that had me questioning the character of the team, and then 2013... but I had faith after DB got fired.

I'll totally be fine if they bomb next season. back to back is insane.

2012 was worse than 2013 to me.
