You shut your whore mouthHe sounds awful. We’re not yet in Tunch territory, but he’s unfortunately to the point where he shouldn’t be paid to talk. It’s a hockey night in Pittsburgh!
Mike Lange returns to the air tonight, calling his first game of the season due to birth of Getzoff’s baby

Sid is good people.

She handed Lange a puck and an envelope and said, "This is from Sid."
The puck was one that had been used in the game; the envelope presumably contained a note or card.
The gesture obviously touched Lange, who had gotten a rousing ovation from the crowd -- and the home team's bench -- when his presence was announced during the game.
"Don't get me started on Sid," he said. "Not as a player. As a person."

eh, I'm sure there are a few more Dubinskys in the league
I'm betting a Marleau or Thornton would be the most respected. Old guys who don't really pop out but also aren't controversial. Maybe I'm conflating most respected with most liked

I think Thornton is a known dickhead. Fun at parties but you wouldn’t invite him into your home.
Marleau’s gotta be seen as a flaccid dude around the league. Mikey/meow - when a nobody like Marleau gets his ego pumped, do other players just roll their eyes and scoff at the things fans care about?

I don’t think so. I think games played is a real high point amongst players. He’s been in the league longer than some guys have been alive. It is definitely a respect thing and I don’t think any player -outside of some real chuckleheads - would roll their eyes at this.

Yea regardless of Marleau's actual impact during his career, how the **** are you gonna rib on a dude who quintupled the average career length? Even a never injured freak like Ovechkin would have to tally 7 more complete seasons to hit Marleau's number.

if you look at a guy like david krejci who has a ton of skill and has played a gritty style at the expense of his body yet doesn't get recognized in any broad way, but is highly competitive and has sacrificed for the sake of team success...and then you have marleau who isn't as skilled and whose longevity is at least partly (maybe more) due to his soft playing style. seems like there'd be plenty of guys who would say, "yeah, i could do that too if i was allowed to just float around for 20 years and didn't bust my ass for my team".
i guess there's probably a handful of guys like that, but most have removed the chip from their shoulder because the NHL is a sweet gig and there's no need for infighting about reputation unless you're a putz like dubinsky.
...and Ovi's gonna break that record, right?

I think Ovi is out once he sets the goals record. I don't see him sticking around long enough before heading for the KHL and being royalty.

KHL makes him like 50% as relevant as he is today. Probably less.
He likes what he has here. He likes Putin’s ball bag as well, but i don’t see him pulling a Datsyuk

Sid's probably way up there on the most respected guys list, yeah...but it really depends on what's being respected, and if there's a skill level cut off...
Like, Alexander Steen is universally loved, for instance...but he's not exactly an impact guy.
There's a lot of respect for Marleau...he's one of those guys that you tell the young kid trying to make a name for himself, like, "hey kid, I know what your game is like and you're trying to make an impact...but we're not hitting or talking **** to Marleau, all right? That guy is off limits." I think the dumber players see him as a HOFer because of the raw totals...I think the guys with an acute understanding of the game, like Erik Karlsson or Drew Doughty, probably realize that he's a guy just kind of made his way for a long time...but either way, he's got the respect. Thornton has respect, guys love Thornton...many find him to be the funniest guy in the league, but also keeps you accountable too...he's a really good teammate and a really good guy off the ice by almost every account I've ever heard...
No matter how you play in the NHL, it's a grind. I mean, let's get to the facts here: He played the most games ever. He got to blow out the candles because he played more games than the 10,000 guys that came before him...more if you count the guys that tried to make it and couldn't get 1. He didn't become 104th on the all time games played list and a jack in the box threw a pie in his face...it's a grind to go through all those training camps and workouts and let's not pretend he wasn't really good player...this isn't 40 points a year times 25 years. He was a legit semi-star in his prime, he crossed over from one era to another...he put in the work. I can barely get myself to work out for 45 minutes a day, three days a week...he's played at the highest level available to him for at least the last 25 consecutive years and hardly missed a step along the way...

Read this today:
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/31 ... means-nhl/Great to hear last week from Francois Beauchemin, who retired following the 2017–18 season, a 903-game NHL veteran. In the aftermath of Patrick Marleau’s setting the NHL’s games-played record, Beauchemin relayed a great story:
“He came out of the penalty box one night in San Jose and I lined him up to hit him at centre ice,” the 2007 Stanley Cup champion texted. “I didn’t think he saw me coming but I took the worst out of the hit. I couldn’t breathe properly for a few minutes and ended up in the locker room to see the doctor. They took me to the hospital and found out I had a lacerated spleen from the hit I gave him. That’s how strong a guy he is.”
That’s pretty impressive — Beauchemin is a tank.

Fox has 23 power play points out of his 47 (Ceci obviously has 0 out of his 17)...so Fox has 7 points when his team has four guys (or less) on the ice...? I guess so, otherwise that stupid meme wouldn't exist...but cool, good for Ceci...way better for Fox, but good for Ceci...
