One of my favorite things about the (former) plethora of NHL salary cap websites is the ability to see AHL salaries, specifically the discrepancy between veteran players and guys on their first contract. The Penguins paid a ton for all the defensive depth they signed this offseason, even offering a guaranteed salary that is higher than their AHL salary in case they don't get called up to earn NHL money.
Olesky - $300,000; $325,000 guaranteed
Ruhwedel - $250,000; $325,000 guaranteed
Warsofksy - $300,000; $325,000 guaranteed (his 6 days on the NHL roster has already netted him $19,167)
Gaunce - $250,000; $275,000 guaranteed
Erixon - $200,000; $250,000 guaranteed
Percy - $200,000
The Penguins forward depth signings got similar treatment.
Porter - $200,000; $325,000 guaranteed
Rowney - $140,000; $175,000 guaranteed
WIlson - $175,000; $250,000 guaranteed
Sestito - $200,000; $225,000 guaranteed ($47,917 so far in NHL cash)
Overall it looks like Derek Grant has the highest two-way deal, with $400,000 in the AHL and $450,000 guaranteed.
In general this is a big change for the AHL since the new CBA. Before 2013 players making more than $105K in the AHL were subject to re-entry waivers, making fringe veterans (the great Jeff Taffe was mentioned in the article I found) likely to accept two-way deals at less than $105K in order to enhance their chances of getting called up.

DD, very good point. Climbing effects of removal of re-entry waivers that placed a de facto $105,000 cap on AHL salaries for a period of about six or seven years. Probably all of the relevant contracts signed under those conditions have expired, full marketplace (with expansion to 30 AHL teams) causes the noted uptick. Astute catch.

Letang out tonight, as per Gaucho.

I'd pay extra money to hear athletes mic'd up the entire game (for all sports) instead of commentators. It must be uncensored though

Nice, I like the batting helmet. Paint bucket was lame.

Hopefully, they can start strong in these games and buck the trend. I'll be resorting to watching highlights after the fact due to how late they start (damn you, west coast trip).

Central time is the only thing I'll miss about living in WI. 9:30pm start is pretty nice since I'm up till midnight every night anyway.

Paint bucket felt like corporate shilling. I'm not sold on the batting helmet yet. I don't exactly associate a Pirates hat with "winning."Nice, I like the batting helmet. Paint bucket was lame.

Nice to get something back for him. Condon is a pretty decent goaltender and I'd certainly rather have him than Hammond. I'd expect Condon to be the starter there once Anderson leaves again.
