Tanev's contract is a game of don't get caught when the wheels fall off. I like him but I would keep Blueger over him. Depending how you feel, it's good I'm not in charge.

I think if Tanev was at least two years older it'd be a tough(er) decision ... but yeah, I'm glad I don't have to make it. This feels like another Tyler Wright situation.

I thought this was Zuckers last year

I checked an he has in fact two years left. No-brainer then.

33 minutes.

I'd much rather protect TB than Zucker. I think that $5.5 million might scare them off from selecting him and you would be passively getting rid of him if you left him exposed and he's taken.Protecting Blueger means exposing two of McCann, Zucker, and Tanev. I love Blueger, but I don't see that happening. Tanev and McCann are no-brainers (I think); Zucker has a year left at $5.5 million, but this is not a contract, much less a player, you actively get rid of, imo.

Well, I mean, the "active" vs "passive" part isn't even a little bit debatable...it's an exposure, not a shove away, and there's not a huge chance he'd be taken...you can easily debate the first part certainly...

Maybe they'll select matheson. Not that he's been bad but... wouldn't mind not having to pay his remaining 27 years and 500 billion dollars

I think they take ZAR or McCann. Don’t see them taking Zucker. He’s borderline worth the yearly contract and why would they want a guy who’s only tied up for a year.

So the $5.5Mx2 will scare them away, but the $4.9Mx5 won't...

Would it make sense to have a separate expansion draft thread? I say yes.

KC never mentioned Zucker so I'm not sure on the context here.So the $5.5Mx2 will scare them away, but the $4.9Mx5 won't...

Same rules as the LV draft?
Do they even have any exemptions?
Protect: Crosby, Malkin, guentzel, rust, kapanen, bleuger, McCann, letang, dumolin, Marino, jarry
Have to imagine the pens are hoping they take Matheson or zucker. Maybe even tanev’s contract

Marino is exempt.

I agree with TL's 7 forwards. Crosby, Malkin, Jake, Rust, Kapanen are pretty much givens. I think I protect McCann and Blueger over Tanev or Zucker because you can never have enough guys that play center. Letang and Dumo are givens at D. I think you could make an argument for Ceci as the 3rd. Since Mario is exempt, there's nobody on the D side that screams protect.
I want Zucker, Tanev, Pettersson, Matheson all exposed. Not because I think they are terrible, but because I'm willing to lose for nothing to gain the cap space/years back. Everyone but Zucker still has 4+ years left. Maybe we lose ZAR, but it's better than McCann or Blueger. Guess Seattle could take Carter but I don't think that would be the smart pick for them.

It was implied if we resigned him before the draft.

Tanev's contract, today, is a bargain. No use planning around a theoretical decline.
High character physical player on multi year deal is what an expansion team should be looking for. I'd be more worried about him being scooped up than Bleuger.

We need the playoffs to start to keep our minds focused on the more important things. Like what we ate for breakfast, how far we can throw a virtual paper airplane, etc.

Good discussion, let the playoffs be a tiebreaker for some of this stuff...it's fairly close. If playoffs can't do it, then total cap remaining might...
