I think Lapierre's faceoff prowess is important in our system, and we are hurting enough on faceoffs as it is. Love Downie though.

I'd be fine with Winnik, Downie, Lappy in that order. I think Winnik has been as advertised and like his style of play.

Assuming market value...

1. Winnik
2. Downie/Lapierre
3. Lapierre/Downie
4. Comeau
5. Adams

At the end of the day, I think the only two guys I'd really reasonably be able to come to terms with (again, value is everything here) are Winnik and Downie...odds are, I'll let Lapierre, Comeau and Adams walk without a ton of dialog if I had to guess...

If Sundqvist can realistically make the team next season there isn't any need for LaPierre, no?

Yes and not only that, Lapierre is inherently replaceable...and like you said, I wonder if Sundqvist isn't on this team by January or February of next season...

I'd have to say...

Downie
Winnik
Lapierre
Comeau
Adams

I really like Downie and would be happy to see him back providing it's at a reasonable price.

Surprised to see Adams so high.

I was, and remain, happy with the Goc for Lapierre trade, but he has been a bit underwhelming. I would like to see him regain some of his Lapierre-ness in the playoffs before I considered re-signing him.

Lapierre has that trash talking, getting inside a guys head which is really tough to replace. You can also let Sundqvist play wing for a year to get up to speed with the NHL game while not having to do the 200 foot center game

Lapierre has seemed to be a "meh" player for us so far. He doesn't particularly stand out other than being a bigger hitter than Goc.

But just comparing their stats from this season (both teams):
Lapierre:

Code: Select all

2014-2015 BLUES 45 2 7 9 -2 16 2014-2015 PENGUINS 29 0 2 2 -11 14
Goc:

Code: Select all

2014-2015 PENGUINS 43 2 4 6 -2 4 2014-2015 BLUES 24 1 2 3 1 2
Goc takes a lot less penalties, about same offensive production and the outlier stat seems to be Lapierre's +/- on the Pens, which could be a result of the entire team sucking as of recently (and we all know how much everyone loves +/-).

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this. I guess: I was disappointed when I heard about the trade and still am.

I don't know much about Sundqvist, just the little I've seen from the preseason and from what people on here say, but I think he would be able to replace Lapierre with some effectiveness.

Downie
Winnik
Comeau
That's my list as well. Don't care about the others and I'm on the fence about Comeau as I think he's settled back to his mean in production.

Downie should be first if he didn't take so many damn penalties. By far the most production and consistency no matter where he plays in the lineup. So by default, Winnik is first then Downie and Comeau. I personally would love all 3 resigned but they should all get decent raises. Which would possibly price one of them out of our range.

He's also RH...as is Sundqvist? Either way, it would be nice to see him ease in at wing.

Eh, he's a Swede, I doubt he will take long to adjust to the NA 200 foot game. Those Swedes come ready to rock and roll right out of the box most of the time.

Very few Swedes are short on hockey sense...so adaptability comes with the package generally.

How's Sunkist looking this season? Anyone see any film on him? I recall Tom Fitzgerald saying they were going to have him play wing. Was wondering how thats working out.

Sundqvist looks good. He plays LW (but is a natural center), usually with Kirill Kabanov down the stretch here...Skelleftea has been riddled with injury all year...weird that we dip into Sweden one time in the last decade practically, and he's trending towards being an NHLer. I think the only other one was a weak toss at Viktor Ekbom or some noise...behind that it was Johannes Salomonsson I think...that's brutal to leave that country alone for so long...

Anywho, Sundqvist is looking good...he's in the mold of the team that we're trying to build here...

Also, it appears as if Kasperi Kapanen is coming to North America to stay next year...AHL-bound I believe...
