Orlov dressed the last game didn't he? Just rode the pine. So if they have to give Orlov and Weber regular shifts (on top of already giving Chorney a jersey) this should be a good omen.

So the rest of the season, then? That works.

Haha I was thinking the same thing....it'll probably go 6 though. Orpik will have a chance to injure somebody while going through the hand shake line.

Orpik is (and always was, aside from a short stretch of a couple seasons) a marginal defender. The issue it poses for the Caps is the amount of minutes he eats up. Their top 3 cannot absorb that many more minutes without risking fatigue/mental mistakes. They've got to roll with some amalgamation of Chorney, Orlov, Weber, or some minor league schlub. Either Sid, Geno, or Kessel will see significant time against a lesser combination. Trotz has no choice but to put one of those guys into a second pairing.

Olli will be a big loss for the Pens (assuming he's even out for that long), but the bottom line is the Pens have depth in this area and the Caps don't.

Orlov was a scratch in game 2 I believe. He is "adventurous" defensively...but he makes sense to come back in, as he's a LHS...Nate Schmidt already plays third pairing on the right side, so I'm not sure if Mike Weber makes a lot of sense...so, I hope he's in, that's a guaranteed power play for us in the 8 minutes of time he'll play...

I haven't wanted to punch a player in the face as badly as I want to fight nate Schmidt in a long time

Just an ugly douchebag looking mofo

There probably isn't a precedent for this, but I wonder...if a Caps player does something illegal and dirty and the league reviews it and punishes him in some fashion, does the league have to compound the punishment considering Wilson committed a punishable offence in game 1 and Orpik did the same in game 2?

Like, instead just an individual or two being dirty, the league looks at it as the entire organization or something...

Only thing close I can think of is when baseball umpires warn the benches and then toss the next person that f's up. Not really the same, though.

Orlov or Weber, either way it's a lose-lose situation for the Caps.

Added bonus is that we would get to listen to Caps fans whine all Summer about it (re: Orpik).

The NHL's track record for getting control of teams and series that exhibit repeated bad behavior doesn't suggest they'll take any action to see that the Caps stop this kind of crap.

What they're doing this series is only moderately less than what they did with the Flyers.

I seem to recall instances of coaches being fined when their teams were involved in line brawls, but I could be mistaken.

Trotz said the notion of Orpik being a "predator" is a "joke."

Trotz said he's disappointed w/the length of the suspension in light of the one game Bellemare got for hitting Orlov in the first round.

Orpik disputed the notion he targeted Maatta's head. Said he's had enough head/neck injuries to do that.

Orpik said he spoke to Maatta after the game. Said him being a pretty good friend made the situation tougher.

By saying the suspension is fair, Orpik is indirectly confirming it was a dirty hit.

3 playoff games is adequate and appropriate. (I agree with the notion that a playoff game is worth 'more' than a regular season game)

That was Bellemare's first suspension. This is Orpik's third.

Tweets from Sam Kassan of Pens Inside Scoop paint a bit of a different picture than Seth's summary:

Orpik: I think (suspension) was fair. it was bad hit. Nothing to argue. It was late. Pretty black & white. Have to live with it -SK

Pens Inside Scoop ‏@PensInsideScoop 1m1 minute ago
Orpik: Happened quick. Made a point to be hard on their guys, esp D. What I tried to do. Made a pretty bad mistake with how late it was -SK

Orpik: Hopefully across the league they start punishing everyone else the same way -SK

Pens Inside Scoop ‏@PensInsideScoop 29s29 seconds ago
Orpik: I was in a similar spot 2 weeks ago. I've dealt with head/neck issues. He's a pretty good friend. It made the situation tougher -SK

Pens Inside Scoop ‏@PensInsideScoop 5m5 minutes ago
Orpik said he spoke to Maatta following the game. "We'll leave that between him and me." -SK

Orpik, of course, was suspended twice as a Pen. Barry Trotz joins Torts as a Pens are the NHL's favored son truther.
