Two objectively terrible NYR trades this year. Losing Duclair to acquire Yandle, and giving up another great prospect and two picks to get Eric Staal. Staal was scoreless the whole series and posted a -7. Couldn't happen to a lousier guy. Any time we complain about Malkin or Crosby not living up to their contracts, remember he got paid almost as much as them the last three seasons, and had point totals of 61, 54, and 39 this year

I bet Staal heads back to the Canes. The Rangers can't throw coin at him with the state of their roster.

If they keep Yandle, it's a pretty good deal. It's one of the better puck moving defensemen in the league, easily the Rangers biggest need. A back line with McDonagh, Staal, Girardi, McIlrath, Klein, etc. is not exactly high on talent...no carriers, no true PP quarterback...McDonagh is good, but in like a Dan Hamhuis+ kind of way...better defensively than offensively...Yandle fills the biggest need they have. Was misused for a while by AV, who you gotta figure is fired...Yandle is a "rhythm" player, he needs minutes, he needs to get into the flow of things to get comfortable...you can't stuff him on the third pair with McIlrath and expect results...having a defense with players like Yandle and Skjei to balance out a very immobile and untalented group is a better idea than having 4 Scuderis...I mean, having a Scuderi type is just fine, it just can't be on every pairing...
The worse deal is probably the 9 first round picks they gave up for MSL...
"I'll only play for NYR."
Sather: Take our captain and as many first round picks as you can carry...
Yzerman: Uhhh...yeah, all right...
Not saying giving up Duclair didn't hurt or won't hurt...but Yandle retained filled the biggest need for them...

The Rangers' biggest albatross is Girardi. He has, what, three years left on his contract? That is Scuderi-like bad.
I would lol if the Canes offered Staal a pay cut to come back to them.
