Okay, booing the delay, I get. And thanks for the confirmation, meecrofilm, that no one really saw the stick to the eyeball.

I didn't quite understand the crowd booing Lundqvist when he went to the bench to get treatment then came back in. If someone was there last night, did they not show the replay of him clearly getting a stick right to the eyeball? Did the crowd think he was faking it or something?
Well, for one, a goalie isn't supposed to be allowed at the bench other than time-outs/commercial TOs/end of period. There was also a long delay to the game because of it. He should've either been forced to sit out until the next whistle or the Rangers should've been charged with a timeout.

They weren't booing the injury, they were booing the delay.
This guy ^ gets it.

Justin Schultz played 5:52, and a couple of people wondered if he got hurt.

I really don't like running 7D, but it seemed to work last night.

IMO, you answered the uncertainty in your second sentence - they were playing with an extra defenseman. I preferred the extra D for two reasons - a) it meant that Sestito was scratched, and b) it's a cushion in front of Zatkoff in case another defenseman got hurt.

I just remember when Therrien used to skate 7D and that would throw everything off. Much higher skill level in the d-corps than in 2009 though.

Sullivan said he wanted to protect Maatta's minutes as well. And keeping Sestito out of the lineup is worth it, obviously.

This was actually reason 2b from my post above. I'd be okay with the same for game 2, as well, assuming that Bennett is still injured. :slug:

If Bennett returns and scores a bunch of goals, I'll literally eat crow.

I'm fine with the booing. Him coming back in would presumably indicate he's fine. Nothing in bad taste there
cheering when he got hit wasn't as high brow. when he started spasming and everyone quieted down was...awkward.
Ahh didn't realize that was happening. Not as cool

We're going to need to get @tifosi77 an edible hat and (hopefully) order you a crow. Does Omaha Steaks sell crow?

Lundqvist is comprehensively their best player. If he's unable to play, it's effectively a pass to the second round for the Pens. And it will say absolutely nothing about the quality of the Pens.

As a fan, I'm cool with that. As a competitor, it would feel empty.

Order? I'll capture one in my own neighborhood. You know, utilizing local ingredients and all.

I'd rather just win. Who cares who they have.
I agree. Are we supposed to by crying because Ryan McDonough isn't playing for the Rangers? To win the cup you need to be both good and lucky, and part of being lucky is surviving the grind with fewer injuries than your opponents. Pens' fans should know this better than anyone else, with all the significant injuries we've had in the past 5 years. That's hockey.

I would think Pens fans would be the last group of fans to be carping about how they want to BEAT A TEAM AT THEIR BEST. As shmenguin pointed out, we are playing with our 3rd string goalie and without Malkin, and we're supposed to hope that Lundqvist is perfectly healthy on Saturday? lulz
I want a do-over on the 2011 series vs. the Lightning.

I'm with Tico. Good luck, imo, is part of the formula for winning this tournament.

If Lundqvist is hurt, then I'm filing that under luck, which we know too well we rarely get. Besides, with the way the Pens can make backups look at times, I don't take anything for granted.

Yes, this was a perfect example of the refs coddling King Henrik. That should have never happened, though in retrospect, maybe it was for the best. If Lundqvist weren't so determined to continue playing when he really shouldn't have, maybe the Pens don't score that goal.

Badger Bob used to say that you need one "easy" series to help you get to the Cup.

I'm not saying that this series would be a slam dunk with Henrik out, but I think our guys would look at it as you can only play who's in front of you and not dwell on it. "That's hockey," and all that. If Henrik's out and the series plays out well for us, then you take it and move on. Lord knows other teams, take the Rangers last year (please!), have taken theirs vs. a decimated Pens and been just fine.

The road is long.

Yeah there's this weird trend where Pens fans don't want to come off as classless, so they overcompensate. I think it started with the Matt Cooke era.

I don't wish injury on anyone, but I'm not going to pretend like I would be sad about beating the Rangers without Hank. Whatever makes things easier, I'm all for. It wouldn't diminish a thing.

Pens fans booed lundqvist for getting hit in the face last night. I dont think they are over compensating for anything or making any effort to have class.

Booing the delay isn't nearly as bad as yelling "Flyers suck" during a moment of silence for Ed Snider.

I see your point. Maybe it's the internet fans that strike me as overcompensating.

I think it started with being rivals with Flyers and Caps fans and then having two SCF with Detroit...

I wish we were above it all, but we're not...few fanbases are really "classy" anymore...maybe because society is full of people that should be turning a giant wheel for all of eternity instead of co-existing with well-adjusted people...
