Pick-A-Pen 2016 Playoffs

The regular season is over and Gaucho has the Presidents' Trophy clinched. Are you ready for second season?

If there is sufficient interest I plan to hold PAP playoffs. The exact details are not ironed out yet but everyone will be able to participate as competitors for the Conn Smythe Trophy (effectively playoff leading scorer). A certain number of PAP participants will also be competing in a seeded bracket for the Stanley Cup.

Please show interest by voting in the Poll. If you specifically wish to be excluded from the bracket portion (i.e., you know you can't participate and do not want to give someone a bye) please speak up now before I seed the bracket.

I haven't done it in a while, but if memory serves you pick a 16 man team. 10 forwards 4 Dmen and 2 goalies. You get certain points for various things for each player and you can only pick one player from each team. You also pick a captain and two A's who have multipliers with their points. I won $50 a few years ago when I played.

Entrants were selected as the players who have submitted a pick in the last 5 games. The only one excluded was @Great58 because it was an odd number and they have so few posts and no points. Everyone not selected for a bracket are encouraged to still compete for the 5AF Conn Smythe.

Additional details on format will be announced once the playoff schedule is set.

I'll write up the complete rules to go along with the Pens Rd1Gm1 PAP thread but I can cover the wavetops here.

You'll make a PAP selection each game like normal. And we'll have a post-season leaderboard like we did in the regular season. This is the "Conn Smythe" portion. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to make a PAP selection each game as this will run constantly until the Penguins season is done.

In addition to the standard leaderboard mentioned above, we'll be running the bracket. This requires no additional PAP selection on the players part as they will use the same selection that is used for the leaderboard portion. Here you will be paired against another PAP player and you will be competing against them to move onto the next round. Each round is a "Best of" series against this other person.

For instance:

Pens Rd1Gm1. Pavement scores 10 and pens_ct scores 8. Both players scores count towards the leaderboard, and Pavement is up 1-0 against pens_ct. Right now I have Rd1 as a Best of 5 series, so Pavement needs two more wins to eliminate pens_ct and advance to the quarterfinals.

I wanted to do this because it kind of combines the Rock, Paper, Scissors type of competition with PAP. You get to compete on two levels, and have to think about your picks a little differently. c2i can pick COLE! each game, and may do well with the playoff high scorer leaderboard, but might not do as well with the bracket. Friendly competition is always fun, too.

If anyone wants out of the bracket let me know and I'll realign it with fewer/different folks.
