Why not? Didn't Cam Ward do it in his rookie year? Ooops, Conn Smythe winner too.

Anti Niemi? Rookie led his team to the Cup I believe?

It's not like we're sticking Zatkoff in there, I have a lot more trust in Murray.
This is like saying that because the Kings won it as an 8 seed that one time anyone can win as an 8 seed.

Weren't the pens an 8th seed in 09?

I am not convinced that the drop of from fleury to murray, if it exists, will affect anything. If it does, its emotional/mental.

Wait, why are people so upset. Over the last month, and especially since the expansion draft talk started, all I've seen on here is how Murray is the next coming and we should trade Fleury and we will protect Murray in the draft and he is ready to be #1 and blah blah blah. Where are those people now? Where were you "Fleury's out, oh no!" people when that talk was happening?

This thread made me laugh.

Murray is going to get thrown into the deep end, way too soon... but we will certainly see what he is made of, both mentally and skill wise. Handful of games and then starting in the playoffs... no pressure kid.

My memory of the Fleury/Murray discussion was over the next few years as his contract comes to an end, to slowly give Murray more and more responsibility, then let Fleury walk and get a payday with some team that really needs a goalie to finish out his career. Maybe I'm not remembering it correctly.

You're right, anyone can win it as an 8 seed.

Your statement was said with great sarcasm, all I did was point out that two rookie goaltenders did wins Cups. It's not like these goaltenders were Brodeur or Roy either. If this team continues playing the way they're playing, get some luck along the way, endure and avoid anymore injuries, and get at least league average goaltending, there's a good chance.

Let's not forget that Fleury had a 2.61 GAA and 9.08 save% the year they won the Cup. Yes he made some big, timely, saves, but overall his numbers were not great during the Cup run. Yet it was good enough to win the Cup.

That was my point of view. However, with the expansion draft coming up many are getting a little... trigger happy on the trade front.

That was my point of view. However, with the expansion draft coming up many are getting a little... trigger happy on the trade front.

I'd be willing to bet the vast majority here would want to follow that plan. If/When the expansion draft gets here, I'll see what feelings I have then, but for now, I have about zero percent of me that wants Fleury traded.
