And they've still got Orpik for two more years at $4.5MM.Shattenkirk is overpaid but he was an upgrade over last year's poo poo platter capitals defense. He seemed like an ok 2nd pair guy. But that paycheck tho...Hopefully the aren't wise enough to shed Shittenkirk and Orpeck.Ovechkin will be older and fatter. Backstrom will score a million goals against vegas and score...less than that against grown ups. Williams and oshie could be gone. Their defense will be worse unless Schmidt and Orlov blossom. Kuzy is probably at his peak now.I would be okay with them not making the playoffs.
They certainly aren't on the rise.

$5.5MM cap hit. Dodint's letang hate is approaching Bennett levels, except Bennett sucks. So it's even more confusing this go around. Lol

Pretty sure Bennett played more games this year than Letang.

It really isn't hate. I just think it's bad asset allocation to build a defense around a guy that consistently misses games and is getting older. People don't get healthier with age.Dodint's letang hate is approaching Bennett levels, except Bennett sucks. So it's even more confusing this go around. Lol
It's my fault for reading the internet and listening to Madden on the way home all week, I guess. People have been shaf'like all week predicting the teams demise while saying "Gee, if Letang were here this would be a lock..."
It's a team game and they won as a team. I'm stoked. I also don't have to quietly shuffle backwards and pretend (*ahem*) I didn't have a terrible opinion all this time.

I actually don't disagree with dodint's health assessment. He's another case you have to worry about with concussions, and now the neck/back area. The neck/back don't just get better, Peyton Manning was pretty much neutered because of that.
I think that's why I've been calling for another top defender to offset the loss when/if Letang gets hurt in the years to come. I will say though, I'd rather have Letang than not, purely because when he gets hurt long term, his money comes off the books, and when he plays, he's damn good.

The day Derrick Pouliot suddenly becomes a #1 minutes-eating defenseman will be the day pigs learn to fly.

In terms of importance to the game:
The knob save on Ovie last night was this year's glove save on his breakaway from 09.

Not very surprising. Ovechkin was a bystander most of this series.

IB4 testicular injury
Any UFAs this year on the Caps team that we'd like to invite to the dark (winning) side?

We'd like to offer $1 million of our cap space towards them keeping Kevin Shattenkirk...

Though I'd rather keep their losing stank far far away.

I don't even know if DP could be a #2/3 defensemen anymore for the Penguins. I think he needs to get traded to figure it out and try again elsewhere.

I sometimes wonder if he ever thinks, "Screw this" and wants to go to Vegas or the KHL.

I'd take Oshie or Williams at the right price, but I'd bet the Pens' biggest needs in the offseason will be 3C and top-4 D. Maybe if they lose a winger in the expansion draft...

God, I hope they don't need a 3C. I love our 3C. If we could keep him, I'd be soooo happy

Oshie is my favorite non-Pen and I would love him. Not sure if he'd fit with the roster and cap situation.. as well as our needs not really being at forward

Who was it for us that hot stopped on an early breakaway? Not Zthe Geno play.. I was afraid that would be their Flower/Ovie save momentIn terms of importance to the game:
