I know that it is after a loss and comments like what I am going to say come from every direction after a loss... but...

Maatta is officially auditioning for the role that Brooks Orpik stared in for me for so long. That role has been open since Orpik left, but Maatta is showing true promise.

I don't know how he doesn't get at least 1 game for that.
He won't get anything because Sheary came back. The skewed logic of the NHL.

Last night was a lot like Game 2 against the Rangers. Both teams probably feel that they can play better. **** Tom Wilson.

I'm probably going to lose a couple years off of my life by the time this series is over. Unless the Pens come out swinging on Saturday and win 4 straight.

That would be killer.

This. Went to bed really late, couldn't sleep (partially because of my daughter waking up in the middle of the night), and wound up taking off because I was so exhausted (and I still can't sleep).

Tom Wilson will be hunting tonight. I don't care about Ovi. Tom Wilson is the one who's prone to do terrible things to other people with no regard to their body.

Murray let in two soft goals, but we blew some opportunities up front. On to game 2.
he was just trying to separate him from the puck

We all knew this series would be going at least 6 or 7 games. I am very confident after this game because I think this is the Caps' best. They showed in the Flyers series that they came out hot and then tailed off. As long as Sullivan keeps them focused and collected, this team will come out on top.

The Caps won the President's trophy but I think that if the Pens had Sullivan all year, they would have been right there as well. The only thing that worries me is if Fleury can't come back and Murray does a tailspin.

Why was Tom Wilson drafted so high? Legit question, because I don't follow much outside of the Pens unless it's a bona fide star.

Power forward potential. Teams thought he might be the next Bertuzzi...that's a serious response, but I understand that the comparison lends itself to some ribbing...

Also, yeah, I had a real hard time getting to sleep after that game...probably took a good hour to calm down...

We can beat these guys...

The Pens can make it up to me by winning the next 12 games straight.

Me, too. So I slept an extra 1/2 hour this am. Didn't need to be in work early for any reason, so I rolled in around 8.

Kidding, the game was seriously decided by an inch. I figured this was going 7 games with a lot of close games. We can play better, so can the caps.

As far as losing in OT goes, having the review made it seem less painful. Had a Cap tickled the twine with a wrister, it would have been like watching the guillotine (sp?) blade drop towards your throat.

So - if you have a desire to sit Maata.
I assume Shultz will be the guy you plug in and I think he's gotta play on the right.
Daley is the only guy on the right side that can slide to play on the left.

Daley - Letang
Dumo - Lovejoy
Cole - Schultz

I believe Daley prefers playing on the right side though.

I don't know - I think it would be a panic move to sit Maata, and I'm not sure of the benefits of moving guys around if you wanted to sit him.

What's being largely overlooked in the Ovie-was-a-non-factor discussion is that Crosby didn't exactly set the world on fire in this game, either. Hopefully that changes by Saturday.

What pissed me off about this, rational or not, was Dumo gets clobbered as well. Obviously saw the complete cheap shot and intent to injure, gets up, looks right at Wilson standing there, and skates away. Knowing the refs don't care he should've planted Wilson in Ovi's lap there. Instead he just skates away with his tail tucked between his legs. It looks worse when you watch it in full.

He skated away because (I'm guessing) he assumed he'd get the retaliatory penalty. That's the way things went last night. Pens were under the microscope, Capitals were able to get away with a lot.

As far as Maatta goes. If he had a strong first round, sitting him would be an overreaction. But he was awful in the first round, and it looks like he'll be awful in the second round.

Put Schultz in, move Daley to the right and see what happens.
